I'm patiently waiting for a small form factor PS5 in order to play those yummy exclusives that Sony has in its stable.

I'm not too fussed about top end power hence being happy with Xbox S for instance, so would quite happily buy an S equivalent PS5.

What makes you think Sony will bring out something much cheaper than the current PS5 (smaller form factor or not)? Also why you think they would adopt MS's approach of a lower powered device? If anything history has shown us they will bring out a more powerful version rather.

Where did I say anything about cheaper?

Smaller form factor and quieter than the PS4 is what I want.

I'm hoping that a 'Pro' version is released and the Digital Edition is then shoehorned into a smaller form factor.

Ah ok. I conflated the smaller form factor with the statement about the "S", which is a product basically about lower cost.

If space is the major factor, then I guess you could wait. But if it's noise, in my experience the only time you hear anything from the PS5 is the drive. Briefly. Quietly. I don't think I've ever heard any fan noise from my machine. It is pretty aerated though; not stuck in a cabinet or something.

Good to know that noise isn't an issue.

Size is though and I'm not in a hurry - I barely have the time to complete the games currently available to me.

That’s just normal Sony build quality.

If your lucky the thermal paste has just gone to ****. If you are unluckily the whole die is buggered and you can’t fix it.

Either way need to open it up and replace the paste to find out.

Then you are of the unfortunate jet plane variety where there is no winning.

Sell it off/give it away and upgrade.

The only way I found to help in those cases is to actually put a fan controller in place so it doesn’t ramp all the way up, but it only helps so much.

Sony normally ops for blowers vs fans that the competition use. Blowers are meant to target a small area so you won't need a massive heatsink. This is normally cheaper but forcing loads of air through a small area does come at a noise level cost.

Lucky on PS5 they used a massive heatsink so the blower does not have to spin half as fast to force air making for a very silent running rig.

On silencing the PS4, only thing you can do is make sure the fan is clean or worse case replace with a new one.

No there’s a fundamental problem with the actual thermal controller on the die of early PS4’s which ramps the fan up to jet plane levels.

You can replace it and clean it all you want, won’t fix the problem if you are in this boat.

R1430 a year for the deluxe tier is a little steep but I will probably get this tier if the selection of ps1, ps2 and psp games are good. All I want is a few Sonic games such as heroes and im sold day 1:ROFL:

Already do own it on ps2 and even ripped my gamecube version for pc emulation with the HD texture pack in dolphin but im really just looking for a more convenient way to play older games and really hoping for trophies.
