PS5

I really didn't expect this at all, Returnal was easily one of the best games this generation.

Yea I thought it was Cory's new game from Santa Monica. But gasped when I saw the HM logo.

It's a shame Returnal came out when PS5 was supply constrained. It really is the best PS5 game this gen (so far)

PS5 at 75million:

PlayStation 5 enjoyed its best-ever holiday period in 2024 and has now cleared 75 million units shipped, Sony announced on Thursday.
According to the company, 42% of PS5 console sales during its latest quarter were to new users, which it said contributed “substantially” to the increase in active users.
Launch-aligned, PlayStation 5 is now just 1.5 million units behind PlayStation 4 during the same period of its lifecycle (76.5 million units)

At that price though, and no physical. It's a 4 year old game the least they could've done is release it on a sale to sweeten the deal. I'll just wait to grab it on sale.

Also selling "Early Access" for it, lmao. Nah

It's gonna be 9/11 for XB fanboys
Personally don't care, just as long as they keep making Xbox's, they can do whatever they want

That said, sadly they are trying to use Sega's business plan, and we all know how well that worked out for their console division.

The difference is that Sega had an uphill battle at the start. MS is big enough to probably do 3rd party approach and keep making consoles. I don't think they will exit the console hardware space but the next XB will probably be a PC hybrid type thing that can run Steam as well

I don't get that sentiment at all. PlayStation has always relied more on 3rd party games than 1st party.

And what do they think is going to happen when one of the biggest publishers in the world suddenly starts porting their library over? No **** they gonna have more games
Well it's their opinion and there's certain parts I agree with. It may be true that 3rd parties will always push out more games, but it's also true that Sony simply isn't pushing out exclusives as quickly as they used to in past generations...

It's an industry wide trend, you can look at EA for example. We also had Covid which till this day gets ignored when this discussion comes up

They already PC's, same with PlayStation

Xbox is a PC based on Windows 11 Core.
PlayStation is a PC using Orbis OS that had its roots in FreeBSD.

Xbox 360, and PS3 was the last true "Consoles".

Right, I meant more like "closed ecosystem" as apposed to the technical architecture

The PS VR2 is Getting a Permanent Price Drop

Sony is dropping the price of the PlayStation VR2. The company announced a permanent price drop for the headset, which has struggled to gain the same excitement as the original PS VR hardware back on PS4. The price drop is effective from March.

In a blog post, the company says the PS VR2 will have a new recommended retail price in different regions. The US price has dropped from $550 down to $399, and in the UK, the headset is dropping from £529 down to £399.

I don’t have the South African price available for you at the moment. However, the PS VR2 is one of the most expensive pieces of gaming tech in our region. Back in 2023, we saw the headset skyrocket in price as it went from the launch price of R13,499 to R15,499.

The new price drop will hopefully bring this back down to a more realistic RRP. I want to say the headset could retail for just over R10,000/R11,000. If you take the old asking price for the UK model at £529 and our previous RRP, you get R25,80.

This exchange times the new RRP in the UK gives you R10,294. So expecting the PS VR2 headset to retail at R11,000 isn’t a far stretch.
