PS5

I also got the mail this morning. Will definitely been downgrading my plan, I only upgraded to the Plus Deluxe as it was very little to upgrade my existing few months (and wanted to play a couple demos).

EDIT: I just downgraded now so I don't forget. Screw that, not paying R2200 a year and South Africa doesn't even get the streaming features.

Oh, I thought it was a case of buying a game (like how we used to buy CD/DVDs) and you own it*. Flipping heck - everything needs subscription now..

*never played any video games so pardon the newbieness of comment.

Only need Essential sub if you wanna network play paid for games. (Also to copy saved data to PS+)
Free to play and Single player don't need a sub

If you want to rent games, then Extra and Deluxe come into play.

Was the same for me. Instead of downgrading, I cancelled. My subscription will still be valid until around Black Friday after which I will take the downgraded plan.

I try to buy all my games physical anyway, but will try and make the most of my last few months subscription to play Hogwarts Legacy, maybe not a game that I would purchase.

You just now reminded me I still have my physical copy of Hogwarts Legacy, should probably put it up for sale since I no longer have the PS5.

Curently Have
PS5 Essential
Xbox Ultimate
Nintendo Online + Extra

Dropped PS5 last year and planning to drop the other two to the lowest tiers when they renew.

To be fair Deluxe and Premium are not the same thing. Deluxe doesn't have the streaming but it's also cheaper accordingly.

Premium is £119 per year so R2979 (mind you, they might increase this as well).

Sony is starting to test my patience. I'm still subbed to Extra till November but if I don't get a black Friday discount I'm going to sell my PS5 and not plan on buying a PS6. I used to own a Series X, Quest 3, Switch, PC, Steam Deck and PS5. I'm down to PC, Steam Deck and PS5. I might just finally cut this cord and be happy with just PC and Steam Deck. PC Game Pass and the odd game on Steam seems like the way forward I don't care about the one Sony exclusives every year anymore.

I stick with the deluxe plan on a monthly basis ( yes I know it's pricier..) as it gives me the classics catalogue. I have modded my Vita to be able to play all of these titles, but I love how it looks on my 86" via the PS5

A PS5 Exclusive DOOM: The Dark Ages Trailer Isn't Sitting Well with Xbox Fans

A new PS5 trailer for DOOM: The Dark Ages – described as “something special for PlayStation fans” – appears to have irked Xbox owners, who are baffled Microsoft subsidiary Bethesda is giving Sony additional marketing support.

It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things – the level it features, named the Cosmic Realm, will be available on all platforms, of course – but it’s being perceived as a further slight by fans, as Xbox makes more and more of its games multiformat.

The video – which has only been posted to PlayStation’s official YouTube channel, and not yet been mirrored on Xbox and Bethesda’s alternatives – has already totted up over 500,000 views, and features game director Hugo Martin directly addressing PS5 fans.

The footage, captured on PS5 Pro, focuses on the aforementioned Cosmic Realm, a Lovecraftian dimension populated by the property’s “most insane enemies”.

To be fair, just to focus on the gameplay for a moment, it looks absolutely fantastic. The new enemies come with unique combat challenges, and a fresh firearm named the Reaver Chainshot looks like a ridiculously entertaining way to dispatch them.

You can read more about the Cosmic Realm through here.

“There are so many more secrets to reveal and legends to forge here in this new world we’ve crafted for you,” says Martin.

“I think you’ll find your time in the Cosmic Realm to be full of intrigue and bloody, bone-crunching mayhem. And it will look amazing on your PS5, featuring cutting-edge, ludicrous graphics powered by the all-new idTech 8.”

Here’s what happened: according to a report from Insider Gaming, Blade Runner: Time to Live entered pre-production in September 2024 and was shelved sometime before March 2025. The game, budgeted at $45 million (including a juicy $9 million set aside for top-tier mocap and acting talent), was aiming for a September 2027 release. That’s a perfectly reasonable window for a single-player, 10–12 hour prestige adventure… and then comes the kicker.

The planned platforms? PC. PS5. Xbox Series X/S. But also—wait for it—“Gen 10 Xbox and PlayStation systems.”

No one throws “Gen 10” around lightly. Studios don’t just slap imaginary consoles onto a production document unless they’ve got at least some confidence in the roadmap. So how would Supermassive know what Sony and Microsoft are doing three years down the line?

One possible answer: because someone told them.

Supermassive’s parent company, Nordisk, has a longstanding and very cozy relationship with Sony. On its own website, Nordisk proudly refers to itself as the Nordic home of PlayStation, handling everything from sales to marketing to logistics. They’ve been in the trenches with Sony through five console launches—and odds are they’re already prepping for number six.

That tracks with recent reports that Sony’s collaboration with AMD on the PS6 chip is already deep into development. According to reputable leaker KeplerL2, the SoC design is complete, and the project is nearing its tapeout phase—a key milestone that usually occurs about two years before retail release.

Translation? 2027 is right on schedule.
