PSP vs DS

As a sony fanboy ....PSP !!! Had very limited gameplay time on the DS and it just isn't for me...I'm tempted every now and then to give it a serious chance, but the PSP fulfills my on-the-go gaming needs perfectly. So to list a few points (only 1 that will diss the DS)..

1. (here it is ...lol), A portable where almost half of it's highest selling games was nintendog ? and the 3 or 4 are mario clones...not for me...loved mario galaxy and even the SNES versions, but it's all too generic for me.

2. If a gamer is a core gamer, meaning he enjoy's intense gaming experiences as opposed to light, casual gaming, why would this change if he is on the go ? I love god of war whether i'm sitting on a bus, sitting on my couch or sitting on the loo...

3. The PSP library is fantastic in my opinion, so it's got core games (Killzone, Assassin's Creed, GT5, Resistance, MGS, Tekken, Final Fantasy, God of War, Burnout) and then has just as fantastic casual and lighter games (Patapon, Locorocco, Puzzle Quest, Luminess, Every Extra Extend) and you can find between the 2...some great sports games, virtua tennis, F1, Fifa, etc.

4. Media capabilities is impressive, don't watch much movies but i listen to music as it's my bed companion and i stream sometimes using Tversity and it's great...

5. The PSP-Go is sexi, but expensive...games are a lil cheaper than DS games though...a

About the screen, i got the screen protector for about R30.00 and got no scratches in 4 years...

Then your gaming needs are way different than the person considering a PSP. The games on the iPhone sucks. I've literally tried hundreds of games on my iPhone and there's about 10 games that's good that I keep on my iPhone. You just can't play PSP-type games on a touchscreen-only device.

That's because interface/design wise they basically belong in the 1990's to be played on a PS2. Sony has completely missed or ignored the fact that gaming on a dual analogue, d-pad, 4-button+shoulder button handheld device is anachronous and tedious. I know iPhone games are mostly kinda weak and PSP has some really worthwhile games -but iPhone is more compelling to me because the interface is far more intuitive than PSP's finger contortions.

This is the same with the Wii as well. What's the use in using something new / different / intuitive if you're not doing it well enough to keep people there?

The iPhone is great, I love the touchscreen and accelerometer. But for playing games it just doesn't work. Every now and again I play a game and I think... "oh this is cool". But then after playing it a couple of times, it gets boring and I realize it would've been so much better with controls.

The Wii is the same. There are some nice games, but most of it are crap. Ironically the game on the Wii that I've played the most so far (New Super Mario Bros), is one that doesn't really use the Wii's motion controls.

Still need to grab a copy of the New Super Mario Bros ... worth it in your opinion?

Definitely! Best game I've played so far this year. Get some mates to join you, the multiplayer is what really makes it fun. Especially with 4 players.

Something that SONY can't do, Multiplayer fun. Too serious. Is it because they're too lazy and think graphics is enough, or is it because they can't really? I think the latter.

Lol. Limited gameplay time on the DS, yes. the DS has approx 10 hours battery life a sitting as opposed to the PSP's 3 hours, makes sense.

Secondly, where do you get these stats, give us a link. Don't just blurt random things out, you need proof to back up your statements.

Lol, you just contradicted yourself there man. 'nuff said.

Well, my DS is voluptious, lets start giving nice adjectives instead of facts. Where do you buy these PSP go games btw?

Yeah you had to buy something extra for that, by itself it would very scratched by now.

Buy both.

If I had the money I would. Can't understand fanboy mentality, the DS and PSP are both portable, handheld consoles. They both draw on games made popular on the 'big daddy' consoles and they are both awsome technologies.

I have a PSP (freaking awsome fun) and I don't have another console so I'm greatful that there are 'ports' from the PS2. That said, I would love to get my hands on a DSi.

I am only pis*ed that Batman: Arkham Asylum hasn't got a port on the PSP. I'm missing out.:(

Limited game time = I haven't played much of it... I gave it a few go's and didn't enjoy the touch screen element, dated graphics and casual gaming....but just a few minutes can be enough for someone to decide whether they enjoy something or not...if you read my post properly, you will see i said "not for me" and "too generic for me"...

If you check most best selling lists for the DS, the top 10 is littered with Mario, Nintendogs and Pokemon....i'm sorry, but only mario is appealing to me and only in limited quantities, the same goes for Jak and Daxter...i've only played one version on the PSP...i prefer more variety...

"Secondly, where do you get these stats, give us a link."
"10 hours battery time and 3 hours on the psp"
How about you follow your own advice or even better, go and do some research, why should i be accomodating to you not knowing shizz...google is your friend, friend...

Might be that it would have been scratched..very scratched though ? how would u know...it's laughable how you just pull stuff out of your nether regions and immediately advise other's don't..

Whether you like it or not, ppl agree with me (if you read alot of the previous posts or even if you just read Ronjay's post above me)...if you would like another interesting stat, the psp and wii units sold worldwide is just about exactly the same...about 57 million each...that's a lot of people minds to change ;)

Core gamer ?

Like in core market ?
So, speaking first about the Wii--what's important to understand is that in 2008, we sold 10 million units of the Wii, which was a record for any console ever in history.
....
Now on DS, we also had a record setting year last year, selling over 10 million units, and we are actually 16 percent above that pace year-to-date in 2009. So the combination of DS Lite and our new product DSi is really resonating with consumers.

I think you are confused Lemon... the core gamer is a Nintendo gamer. PSP fits in to what you might call a niche market.

How does "not for me" , "too generic for me" tie in with the fact of the DS' gameplay time? You're not making sense. . . Just say you don't play much on it.

Mario, Nintendogs and Pokemon are VERY different games man. . . sigh.

Why should all of us look for the info you're sharing with us? Wtf man. GIVE US THE LINK? The interwebs is a massive place, and it's decency and proper etiquette if you conveniently give us this link, perhaps this "imaginary source" you're getting your info from doesn't exist? It's laughable how you just pull stuff out of your nether regions, ye, the PSP go is sexi too man. sure.

Um, yeah, lots of people agree with me too. They love the DS. Ronjay said he'd get both, very smart and objective man. He doesn't fully agree with you. sorry.

And the sales info. . . errr, link please?

I dont think you know the meaning of generic, you're saying the only touchscreen console on the market is generic while a console based on every other console available (except the wii) is not?

Do you ever bother to just read what the conversation is about before rambling on about nothing?

He said the games like Mario is too generic.

And all those ports of existing games on the psp are fresh and new?

Nobody said they were?

I don't like the DS games either. It's just too childish to me. Some people love them though. I've played lots of those type of games on my Wii as well and I hate them. But that's why I have a Xbox 360 as well, to play the games I like.

A game doesn't have to be "fresh and new". For me it just has to be fun.

Then why bash that the DS has generic games when the competition has exactly the same (worse really), implying something isnt very different from stating it

Dude, you seriously need to start reading the posts. This is what he said:

Like I said, some people like those games, some don't and find it too generic. It's just a personal opinion. That's why some people buy PSP's and some people buy DS's. Apart from the NES versions and the New Super Mario Bros on the Wii, I also can't stand the other Mario games. It's like it's all the same game.

Nerf : 'core gamer as in hardcore, lots of invested time, money & effort...prefers experiences with depth...tough to master, tough to complete...whichever way you want to cut it, PSP is not for a niche market dude...but believe what you want.

Nuidiusimo :
Yeah, suggestion to read the post before responding is a good one...not the console, the games/library is pretty generic for me. Some of the ports were great...have you played Killzone liberation (think it's an fps ?), played resistance on psp (think it's an FPS too ?)....LBP, GT, God Of War were great ports, but maybe not so fresh, but patapon, locorocco, crush, puzzle quest, EEE, N+, luminess are awesome games...

and also agree with Retro, and i said it in my initial post..they just not for me, feel childish and casual....
