PSP vs DS

LOL @ people claiming DS is casual, go play FFIII and then come back to me

Thats the thing... yes a lot of Nintendo's stuff could be considered casual but it has enough content to satisfy all the different markets.

I think the multimedia stuff on PSP is great, for a long time I really wanted one because of it.... then I realised that I wasnt really that interested in having a portable tv, for music I would rather have a iPod anyway. I liked the idea of being able to network the PSP... still have never met a real person that has done this... so whats the point.

Oh a feature my friend told me about, I'm not sure if its with the early PS3 or the later one, but you can convert your PS1 game into images to play on your PSP! (and don't any of you say tekken 3 was not an awesome game!)

PSP, really the only draw for DS is that its where all the sequels to NES/SNES and SEGA so if you didn't get over thos games that for you, If you like decent graphics and a good shooter or racing get a PSP,
If I was offerd a choice between the two I would take a PSP 1000, if I was given the money, I would upgrade my PC :D

I agree fully with Tpex. :p

Hacked PSP's can play PS1 games, I can confirm that. They can also play about 20 other older consoles' games with emulators.

no, it doesnt support avi, MP4 only, unless they added support in which case post a link

My PSP can play all of my AVI movies (I have a library of about 70). But then again, I use Dark Alex's 5.00 M33-6 firmware.

If we bring hacking into the picture the PSP's functionality increases tenfold!

Um, read my first post to introduce this thread. I said "Lets not mention homebrew apps/emulators." as this is not officially endorsed by the respective gaming comapnies. And the games emulated in most cases is not the intellectual property of Sony.

The PSP is a hacker/homebrew junkies dream and it's popular mostly for it's emulation of other consoles (Mostly Nintendo's and Sega's older consoles from even before the playstation was concieved) and steal from the intellectual property of these respective companies from their prime days, kinda sad isn't it? that only way the PSP became popular is for its emulation of other consoles. . Only way the PSP is cool if it steals from Nintendo and Sega because its own library isn't that great.

Sony isn't as intellectually capable as Nintendo, or maybe just damn lazy... they just rely on good hardware to attract the noobies who think graphics determine if a game is good or not and media playbak. Nintendo on the other hand, focuses on pure gaming, not any frills such as DVD, HD playback and are confident they will sell due to the simple fact that they CAN produce top notch games, and thus don't need to dish out top of the line hardware and add extra features. Look at the Wii for instance, it took most of the market ranging from kids, adults, casual gamers and even the odd hardcore gamer. Leaving the PS3/Xbox to duke it out for a much smaller market of hardcore gamers. Very smart.

The DS is more capable of producing a good fps than the PSP, simply because of the touch screen, you still agree with that? Racing, PSP takes the cake.

Edelweiss I noted your first post, But don't you think the vinnila console argument has been done to death already? I don't know myself but I'm sure the DS has a lot of hacks, the fact that it has a touch screen gives it a lot of possibility, Hack are not always illegal.
Anyway it was just a statement, But if you feel strongly about this then I shalll create another thread?
