New way to take drone with you.
What am I supposed to be seeing?

After a long time editing footage of my first flight of the mavic and messing around, this is what I came up with. I know it isnt the best, but hey it's something. I didn't focus the video on my first flight and you will see it.

Enjoy...

Lucky dude, that's an awesome toy. My suggestion would be to not include any camera pans within your shots ... cut the shots just at those points where you move the camera, and it'd be a lot smoother right off the bat.

I finally got my Mavic Fly More pack last Thursday.... only to have 3 days of solid rain  ... I managed to get up and out 4 times over the weekend between the drizzling. Right off the bat I have decreased the movement and stopping time of the gimbal, way to quick on the standard settings. So in total, I probably have 15 minutes of recorded footage. nothing special, just around my garden, learning the ropes... (never flew a drone before this :D) Really love this Drone! its fantastic.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm using DJI Go Ver 4, not 3. The Cinematic mode in flight is cool, slows down all the input movements without having to change any settings...

For Setting Gimbal...

Anyone got a good easy to read link on drone regulations in SA? Most of the stuff I have found in last 10 mins is from 2014/5 and even the stuff from the last year refers to the them. I seem to remember there was some new stuff last year (not requiring license unless commercial etc)

Just want to brush up.

Saw some young guys at the beach yesterday flying what I would think is irresponsibly.. Middle of the beach vertically up so high the thing could barely be seen, then over the semi crowed beach and into the distance way out of line of sight. They went down wind to so I wonder if they could even bring it back.

DJI finally has stock now in Shanghai, got an email from them letting me know orders made on the 10th will be delivered by the 15th.

Sadly I can't buy one now, as I'm bedridden for the next 3-6 months (I fought the road, and the road won). Grr..

Anyone can fly as a hobby.
Not sure why http://www.safedrone.co.za/ has disappeared, was a really good info source.

I've sold my Inspire 1, from what I can remember though:

No fly zones are police stations, courts, prisons, military or other government buildings/ air space
No airports/ nature reserves
Don't fly over or around other people
Don't fly on private property
Don't fly over 120m
Fly line of sight
Hobbyists can't make commercial gains

Basically, don't be a dick and respect the relevant airspace/ no-fly zones

Let's say you flew your drone over a busy beach what would the penalty be and if you were a member of the public how would you report illegal drone flying?

Also not always easy to see who exactly is flying a Drone if they are 100m away or further.

Thanks. More or less what I have previously read. Would be useful to have something official as I already have heard comments "you need a license for that thing" from a distance.

I use this as a guidline:-

NEW REGULATIONS A WIN FOR HOBBY DRONE PILOTS

Drones were made legal for the first time in South Africa from 1 July 2015 and it is actually a big win for hobby drone users!

UNDER THE NEW REGULATIONS HOBBY DRONE PILOTS:

Do not need an RPL (Remote Pilots Licence).
Do not need to register their RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) aircraft.
Do not need an aviation medical.
Can fly RPAS up to 7kg weight.
Can fly at night (previous not allowed for any RC aircraft).
Can fly up to the height of the highest object in 300m of the drone (up to a max of 400 feet).
Can fly up to 500m away from the pilot, while maintaining direct line of sight (RVLOS).
Need to keep more than 50m from people.
Need to keep more than 50m from roads.
Need to keep more than 50m from buildings.
Need to keep more than 10km from airports.
May not fly in No Fly Zones.

Just received an email from one of the retailers. It seems the Mavic is still in short supply and it seems that they are first fulfilling the dji.com orders.

Depends on how you interpret the rules, if you are over 50m above them, still 50m away from people... I doubt many SAPS or Metro Cops know the rules themselves.

So it would seem obvious that flying over a crowded beach is illegal?

Yet YouTube is full of that incl flying over building and roadways?

Rules in SA are to be taken with a pinch of salt. They are merely guidelines and not hard and fast rules

So basically fly your drone where ever you please??

There must be some clear cut rules?
