Quadcopter/Drone Thread

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a Mavic 2 Pro with flymore combo....

Whats holding you back? Had a drone before?

I'm still quite happy with my Phantom 3 Advanced. Smaller size of a Mavic would be fantastic but not worth the cost.

This wait until my Air arrives next month is killing me :o

I see more morons with drones in the news.

Tens of thousands of passengers have been disrupted by drones flying over one of the UK's busiest airports.

Gatwick's runway has been shut since Wednesday night, when two devices were seen flying over the perimeter fence.

The airport said a drone had been spotted "in the last hour" and the runway would not open "until it was safe to do so".

About 110,000 passengers on 760 flights were due to fly on Thursday. Disruption could last "several days".

Their rules seem a lot more lax than here. In SA there's a 10km exclusion zone around airports compared to 1km there.

So what device would you recommend to use as a controller? My day to day phone is an iPhone 7. I also have a Moto Z lying around that might be a better option because it has a semi integrated spare battery.

A third option is a iPad mini but that would involve a screen replacement. We've just upgraded our kids' iPads so it's just going to be sitting around in a drawer.

I use an old iPhone 6s. Just the right size and the DJI Go app works well. So, go for the iPhone 7

Does receiving calls/emails/messages have any effect on the app? I don't want to have a crash if my phone rings.

Also - the Moto Z does have a larger 5.5" screen. Not sure if that will make a difference.

Put your phone in flight mode after you have updated the GPS locations settings etc

Ok - I won't be able to use my phone in that case so narrowed things down to either using the Moto Z or getting the iPad repaired and using that. Thanks :)

EDIT: do you guys insure your drones? Got a quote the other day for about R200 per month which I think is pretty reasonable - though it doesn't cover me for any damages to other people's property.

Mine is with household insurance

Yip, bought a Spark in 2017 and been an avid drone flyer since. Bought a Tello for shits and giggles and love that as well for messing around at home and indoors.

Anyway, bought the M2 Pro and took it down to the coast. Got some nice beach footage while testing it out. This thing is on another level.

You need to check that with your insurer because if it's on householders it probably means that it is covered for theft/damage while it's at home/in the car/hotel room, etc but highly likely it is not covered while you are flying it.

My M2 Pro is covered by these guys who cover you while you are flying, so crashes, pilot error, etc is covered: www.dronecovered.com who are a local outfit.

Ten more days and I'll have my Air. I think I've run out of youtube videos to watch :o

so guys, over the holidays, I flew my syma x5c into a tree, did manage to get it down,

but now I busted a motor, its similar to the h31 series motors, but where can you guys recommend in JHB that fixes it cheaply?

I will check. I do have R500,000 public liability insurance included in the policy. Also, if you do a drone course that's advertised on their website then they will increase the PL insurance to R2M for free.
