Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Thanks. A Tello is also a possibility.

I like that the Tello can be programmed with Scratch as I'm just introducing my daughter to Scratch.
I think my youngest is going to be doing something like that at school with Speros - I've got a BB8 I thought I'd donate to the project but maybe my old Parrot drone would also work.

And yeah - that Drone-X Pro looks like a piece of junk. If you really want to get into drone photography you might have to spend a few more bucks. Maybe a DJI Spark? It looks like the camera is decent enough.

A Spark is probably what I really want but I don't really have the budget for it at the moment. Maybe I can get one later if SARS smiles upon me this year!

Istore have the Tello for R1699 online, I'm going to head over to Eastgate this morning to see if I can pick one up.

"Tricked" my Air into FCC mode and can't get over the difference it makes. Weak signal issues seem to be a thing of the past now.

Got the Tello today and we've had it's maiden flight. Had a good giggle and my daughter loves it.

I seem to have scored 2 extra batteries in the box as well #cashback!

Nice. I don't really do range tests anymore after a close call. Won't mention the distance. Lost all signal for two minutes.
Wasn't really a range test - I had max distance set to 700m. I just wanted to test the difference between CE and FCC mode... and it was Massive™

Got some flight time in yesterday after I finished up an unrelated shoot deep in the Eastern Cape. Started raining during the flight but I don't think the drone suffered any ill effects.

I'm having one helluva time trying to edit the DNG files on my Mac. I guess the format is too new for my editing suite so I'm sticking with JPG+raw for now.

looks cool @bwana, good quality shots,

next time try fly in a big city and do a few shots of that, woud love to see how that turns out
Unfortunately most of the cities I go to have airports which have a 10km exclusion zone that seems to cover all the good bits. :o

I normally use RawTherapee for editing DNG files. There is a Mac version available.

This file format has been around for 14 years, so problems may be attributable to either a glitch in the editing software or the implementation by the camera manufacturer.

As a last resort the free version of Lightroom on your iPhone can edit them.
