I just so happened to find an iPad mini 2 at work, that I could use to test. I'll be doing some tests this afternoon on it and will report back.

I will burn through 3 batteries to see if there are overheating issues.

Hope it works out better for you than it did for me. I'm still trying to get the mini 2 working. Forgotten pass codes means having to recover the device.

I did find a fairly badly damaged mini 4 in the junk drawer and that works well, despite the cracks in the screen. I'll do some more extensive testing tomorrow, weather obliging.

So I got the iPad mini 2 fired up and working with DJI Go 4 app. Works very well. Zero lag issues when using the OTG cable.

The only reason I would go for the Mini 4 is if it had a better screen - but other than that there would be zero difference. The app runs as fast as it does on my iPhone X as it does on that Mini 2.

The 4 has a brighter screen which is nice. I finally restored the Mini 2 so I'll load the Go app on it and see what's what. On big advantage my 4 has is it's a Wifi + Cellular model so it GPS.

I am in two minds now on the Mini 4 or not. The Mini too seemed to work just fine and the screen was bright enough.

If you're happy with the Mini 2 use the Mini 2. I'm still happy with the performance of the sub-$50 Amazon Kindle Fire. I just happen to have the iPads lying around.
 
Anyone flown the Parrot Anafi yet?

I'm looking for something to take with me on holiday but can't decide between a DJI Spark or Parrot Anafi. I don't want anything very high-end like a Mavic but I would like to be able to fly it a good distance in the open forest i'll be in as well as press "return to home" and it actually comes home (not like my last drone a Parrot A.R Drone 2 which used to just randomly fly off in another direction when you pressed "home" and crash."

Can't speak for the Parrot; however I have had my DJI Spark since December and just love that little drone. Great distance (2km) and the RTH feature works well.

From what I've read the Anafi doesn't have any sensors for obstacle avoidance - since you're planning on flying this in a forest you might want those.

If you're going to spend that much money on a Anafi why not get the Air instead of the Spark. Smaller footprint than the Spark when it's folded up.
 
Is the Air a major upgrade over the Spark? Or just a better camera?

It's a better machine for sure - better range, speed, flight time - but it costs a lot more so it should be.

I'm going to be flying mine in a forest at the end of the month, I'll let you know how it performs with all the trees [possibly] interfering with the signal.

I've been reading somewhere that drones for sale in ZA (based on EU) have had distance restrictions loaded on them and can only go up to around 300m (for Spark) and 1KM (for Mavic Air).

Anyone know if this is true?
 
All this drone talk , I need to charge my phantom 4 , last time I used it was in feb

It’s a simple enough matter to switch the Air from the European (CE) mode to the higher strength FCC mode if you have access to an android device. I presume the same for the Spark.

Exactly the same process for the Spark. Can be done with an iPhone as well.

How? All the guides I've seen say you need an android phone to make the initial switch [back] to FCC.

Very easy. Just need a Mac and 2 mins of your time. :)

- Run Xcode on the Mac (Free)
- Connect iPhone / iPad to the Mac
- Install a blank app on the from from Xcode
- Simulate location - I set it to San Francisco
- Start DJI Go 4 app

It will ask you to change WiFi settings as it thinks its in the States. And done.
The only trick to remember is next time you start the app, is to tap cancel on the wifi settings pop up that appears.

Took me literally 30 seconds to do this.

Thanks but I've got a couple android devices I fly it with - someone else will, I'm sure, find it useful. :thumbsup:
