Question for Camera Guys

All these posts have been about Cannon bodies and options. Any reason you are set on Cannon, their are other good brands too.

The only reason I was asking about Canon is because I have heard around that it is a good brand. I am just as open to other options, I would love them. Only thing is, on this I have to be "spoon fed" as I am new to cameras, and the lenses confuse me!

Ok, so methinks I'm going to buy a DSLR camera with a kit lens to start. Now... which one?

There are some pretty decent ones out there in that price range - I got the missus a powershot A560 (for under r1k) for xmas and she's happy with it.

Perhaps aim a little higher.

What are the dSLR options?

Talking about different cameras and people's opinion about it. One thing I've read over and over about the K100D series is that the AF performance is lacking. Well, I'll be damned. The one I got my old man focusses instantly. I mean, as soon as that shutter is halfway down, the image is in focus. So on saturday I stumbled upon a demo for £230 - not a bad deal. Got it with the DA 18-55 lens - a pretty sharp lens as far as kit lenses go.

So far I've only shot a few pics in the house under rather poor lighting (it's dark when I get back from work). Can't say I share the complaint about AF.

So you settled on a Pentax? Hoping to borrow some of the old man's glass? :)

73USD is default, but there is a cheaper option at 45USD. International Priority Mail I think its called. So the 16gb touch plus shipping comes to R2800, at an exchange rate of 7.3

That's a decent savings even if the customs does hit you up for their share. :)
