question on international hosting

Nearly done with my magento ecommerce store, while i'd like to splash out and get a dedicated server locally from the likes of Hetzner, RSAweb or similar.
a) The cost at this point is not worth while, b) nobody in za seems to be able to give me answers to magento optimized hosting.

So i'v settling with http://www.nexcess.net/magento-hosting - shared hosting.

My question, obviously overseas is slower then local. Would it be better to host in UK or USA?

UK should be faster on average versus the US, however, it will also likely be more costly. One basic way to test is just ping the webhosting providers you're interested in and see who has the better average response time (around 210ms is great). Of course, this doesn't take into account what kind of computing power they give you on either shared or dedicated, which can also affect the overall loading speed.
