Personally, I have no problem with repeats. It's the way TV works. I seldom if ever watch a TV movie anyway, maybe once a year just to keep my wife company.

Sky is just one service, the UK has more. They also have cable. Europe has a multitude spread across many satellites.

At one time I had nearly ALL of Europe's channels to watch on a moveable dish and it was awesome.

There are even 200 channels free in the UK from one provider, Freesat.

Movie content is dated and repeated numerous times. The truMovie channel is a joke. Never heard of the stuff they screen. They also have this Channel Movies for Men, screening B grade action movies fron what looks like the 70's.

Cable is literally the same as sky, just with less popular new content.

Have also seen services in the Netherlands and France. Its just a repeat bonanza.

Point being stop complaining. Dstv is on par, if not better than services in Europe.

I agree. And our sports coverage is phenomenal for the price. Every foreigner I've ever had stay with me has been jealous of DSTV.

Just as a btw,

As of right now, the Complete Sky Bundle, which yes has a few more channels and features than DSTV Premium, is currently priced at R1280.50 per month including a decoder on a 12 month subscription.

You can get the same thing from DSTV (new decoder, and premium) for R799 on a 2 year contract.

and you can watch more EPL than Sky. FACT

Comparing us with a first world country is dubious at best.
Rather compare with India, namely Tata Sky.
I will build up a number of channels that I would like to watch and see how it compares with DSTV. Note, I don't watch sport at home so DSTV doesn't have their claws into me.

In South Africa, this costs about R66 .

Now the purchasing power of India is significantly less than South Africa.

India's Monthly wage adjusted for purchasing power is $295
South Africa's average wage adjusted for purchasing power is $1838 (not as bad as COSATU et al say it is)
So according to the ratios, South Africans earn 6.2 times more than Indians
So to deliver the service here, would approximately cost 6 times more on wages alone.

Lets have a look at that figure again:
R66* 6.2 = R409 per month.
This is about the same as DSTV extra and IMO blows it out the water

Oh and free Video on demand as well.


DSTV may have more channels, but more free to air religious channels doesn't really count against HBO

All people want is choice, which ironically is something that Multichoice is incapable of providing.
