R30000 machine....

i am buying what i think is an uber machine for R14 000
geforce 8800 GTS 640MB
2x 320GB SATA H/D

I would assume that your uber machine was bought at dealer-pricing? I doubt that PC could be bought retail for 14K. Also, unless you're gaming at resolutions higher than standard LCD's can go, the 640Mb 8800GTS is no better than a 320Mb.

Outlaw69, buying from the cheap US e-tailers may mean some savings, but if there are hardware faults, you have to factor in the time and cost of shipping parts back.

Pal o' mine has 4x 35gig Raptors in RAID0 on his now outdated socket 939 AMD64 4800 (I think, can't remember exact CPU speed). But I never fail to be gobsmacked by how everything just *blinks* open - if you've got the the money to burn and a yen (heh) for this kind of speed, it's worth it ..'sides, now is still a good time to do this, before SSD storage become cheap enough to replace these 10k rpm drives.

My suggestion would be to spend the majority of the cash on things that are somewhat future-proof. i.e. You can never have enough hard drive space, and an awesome dual-LCD monitor setup is great too (I'm running a 22" widescreen and a 19" LCD side by side. Awesome). So I would say spend more money on that which won't be out of fashion in a year's time.

Otherwise if you are looking to overclock, the Core 2 Duo (or quad - maybe the Extreme?) overclocks like a god (I'm running my E6300 1.86Ghz @ 3.22Ghz - 72% stable overclock on stock cooling...).

In terms of gfx I would get something good, like the Gigabyte Ge-Force 8800GTS 320MB that will play everything on the market including all the stuff coming out, and stick it in to one of the slots of an SLI board. That way when it does fall behind you can just buy another one (probably at half the price :P ).

Yo that's such a RIP!!!

My 2c:

CPU: Intel QX6600

Mobo: Any good P35 chipset board

Ram: 2x 2GB DDR2-800

HDD: Seagate 7200.10 16mb cache, Perpendicular (they apparently are super-silent and approaching raptor performance)(however big you require)

GFX: 1x 8800GTX

Screen: 1x 22" LCD or 32"+ even

Agreed, and that has to be the ugliest monitor I have ever seen. As far as I am concerned, Ferrari belongs in the garage and on the race-track, not on your body as clothes, or on your desk as a monitor. Also I think that from now on anyone who posts a link to Incredible Deception with the intent of purchasing from them should be banned.
