If you live in the sticks where no ADSL or Fibre is available, it is YOUR responsibility to become knowledgeable re. the technology you DO have i.e. your laptop/tablet or smartphone. "I didn't know" is a pathetic excuse re. tech in this day and age.

If you live in a cave, don't moan when your iPhone goes OOB....

If the person speaks nicely to them, they might. They did for me when something similar happened with an iOS update on my daughter's phone that 'somehow' eluded their famous 'softlock'

1) That would be nice, but I understand that they are in the profit game after all. It's just that a lot of people around here think every other person has ADSL and tons of data to access the internet.

Easy there. I think you and I are talking about different issues. I'm not defending this individual with his ignorance. My issue is with people on here who seem to think ADSL and tons of data is what your average SA has to access the internet. Stuff like "I'm sure he's got a friend with ADSL" is just plain ignorance in my view. Look at the stats I say to those, (ADSL/fibre subs to total number of households), just cause you hang around folks with access doesn't mean your average Saffer does.

Who exactly is this "average Saffer" that owns a W10 device, but has no ADSL access??

Mmh.. I'm sure that there was an option to disable it or to warn you about updates. I'll check when I'm home.

We are aware of some ways to manage the Windows update process. Most of the methods documented by MS and other websites work fine with WIN 10 Pro but unfortunately quite a few do not work with WIN 10 Home.

The issue is how to manage the update process with WIN 10 Home, so please indicate what version of Win 10 you have and how you went about disabling auto updates and please indicate if the solution is permanent, and not just delaying the updates.

I live in Boschkop, I do not have have ADSL neither do the about 10 000 people who live in the area.

I know of areas where Telkom did not replace the copper after it had been stolen a few times.

They can't afford ADSL - obviously. Study loans, bursaries - are you really so disconnected from the reality of the majority of South Africans? They normally own the cheapest laptops (R3500 - R4000) which ship with Win10.

all the network providers should have a way for you to OPT OUT OF OUT OF BUNDLE DATA

Where you send a sms, or a USSD code and when this is enabled you can not use data out of bundle, but can only use bundles.
 
Windows 10 caught me out as well. Not the updates though but the stupid One Drive sync thing.

Turns out Office 2013 keeps its .pst file in the same folder that is synced to One Drive (My Documents).

Only realized it was uploading my 8GB .pst file after it had done about 3GB :erm:
