R80,000 e-toll bill problem

This guy's business model is the problem. Those people were blacklisted for a reason. They didn't pay what they owed.
So why does he assume now that they will suddenly start paying what they owe?
Recipe for disaster all around and it's kinda hard to have any sympathy for them.
He assumed personal risk for them and now the personal risk is coming home to roost.

Agreed

The owner is always the one who is ultimately responsible. One reason I will never buy someone else a car on my name other than my wife and maybe kids.

Also I had a look at his website and did a quick calc

A R300K vehicle over 66 months he is quoting at R16800/month incl insurance no deposit.

If you did your own finance R300k no deposit over 66 months ( which is not available ) would be +- R5927 per month based on 10% interest.

Even counting in R1000/month insurance, how is R10 000/month profit helping the poor lol. One big ripoff scam.

Also he is saying he has 800 vehicles on his name at R80000 total bill = R100 per vehicle. LOL @ the profit he is making he should just pay the bill.

No valid tax invoice, no payment. Simple really
Cosnidering that payment is required within 7 days to qualify for discounts SANRAL should SMS or e-mail the daily charge and total to the road users every day.
Invoice generation should be an on-demand activity via the web and they could install self-service kiosks for that purpose.

What's stopping Sanral from emailing invoices every day?

Not sure if you have ever done this but I have

You have to provide the otehr person's ID and they have to accept responsibility for that fine. You cant just arbitarily pass on responsibility of the fine to someone else.

Wait a sec!

So if someone else drives my car and receives a moving violation / traffic fine, I can access various methods of showing that it wasn't me and the legal responsibility is passed along, right?

But Etoile is tied to the vehicle, so if for instance, my car is stolen, I am liable for the toll fees until the car is reported stolen.

In this guy's case, surely he can show SANRAL the agreement between himself and the owner /perp and in so doing not be liable.

Eish, this whole Etoile thing...

*Facepalm*

He can't use the nomination form because he can't get AN INVOICE SHOWING WHO INCURRED WHICH FEES. He doesn't even know who owes what, and they're throwing loops about such a simple part of the process, do we want to take bets how well they'd handle the nomination form IF it ever got that far?

They need your email address first. That's why they ask you to register and then
they will gladly mail your invoices.

Blacklisted people are unlikely to qualify for a R300,000 vehicle.

Here we get to the point!!

Seems like the guy notified his clients which would allow them to get a tag or fill in the nomination forms, they didn't do this. Now he has been given a single amount to pay, but no way to know which vehicle incurred which fees and when. This is a serious problem.

Is there anyone here who manages fleet vehicles that don't have tags? What have you received from SANRAL? Even someone who has at least 3 vehicles registered in their own of business name. I am curious how you are able to figure out the billing.

Think about companies not based in JB, car users may drive there for business and then they get one large lump bill. Problem.

Something I think most missed. He said he was more than willing to collect the tolls but he does not know what to collect from whom. The problems will continue until such time as SANRAL is able to provide proper invoices and then to do so on a 'on demand' basis.

You are assuming everyone pays. I'll take a wild guess and say that he writes off a lot as bad debt.

If he has 800 vehicles on the road it sounds like he is making money no doubt.... You are aware you can be blacklisted for anything. A simple dispute in billing for eg with Mweb they will blacklist you. Happened to me. Sorted now after a couple of months of battling... Imagine not able to get a car cause you have a dispute with your internet service provider....

I love it that these little things are now happening, as a simple 10c fuel levy COULD have prevented this all - I'm using my highways and having popcorn whilst this unfolds - YUM!

but then government can't get kickbacks/bribes...
