Racial Classification

True. But making a statement like this, as true as it may be, and in such a fancy and flashy way, does not imply that the writer referred to (me, in this case) was claiming that racial classification was an act of discrimination.

No, of course its not automatically discrimination, but one has to question the purpose of racial classification. I can't actually think of a purpose for classification that wouldn't be discriminatory. In the South African context it is certainly discriminatory because it is for the purposes of AA and BEE. AA and BEE whether they are good or bad are discriminatory and thus unconstitutional. It is not totally unheard of for a constitution or part there of to be suspended for special circumstances, but its a dangerous path to tread. Arguments could be made for the greater good...

Anyway my point is that to lose site of the nature of AA and BEE because of its intent is dangerous. And don't forget that the people responsible for implementing these policies are *spit* politicians.

Once again, flashy and impressive use of phrases, which does nothing to supplement your argument.

And please do not associate me with the white racists on this forum.

Well sorry about the stupidity bit. You're probably no stupider than the rest of us.

Is it ok if I associate you with black racists then? JK :p

As far as the racism part though, I think you may just be a bit of a one, whether you realize it or not.

I like you a bit more. You have laid off with the flashy phrases, quotes, cliches and such sorts. Also, you seem to have calmed on the accusations.

Nick, I agree, AA and BEE whether they are good or bad are discriminatory and thus unconstitutional - ON ITS OWN, without any reason. However, the fact is that these measures are in place to address the wrongs of Apartheid, where there were serious discriminatory and thus unconstitutional acts. I explained this already. So, because AA and BEE are there not on their own, but as countermeasure to the wrongs of Apartheid, they have been approved as acceptable and not against the constitution. Please refer again to my thief / prison sentence example of a few pages back. The prison sentence counters the crime. Similarly, AA and BEE counters Apartheid.

Did I say discrimination and oppression are ok? Where?

You are quite happy to discriminate against whites as witnessed by your posts in this thread. You are also quite happy to have government enforced discrimination, as long as you can console yourself that it is justified.

Haha! Sounds interesting. When you do gro an affro, place a pic on your ID!
You sound like a cool South African. I actually like your attitude. It is like a fresh breeze. I wish it would blow over to some other members here.

dude, i'm so down with the black peeps in SA that i helped get one arrested today, in collaboration with other black dudes. i'm so down with black people that i watched the Muvhango repeat today. i'm so down with black people that i learnt today that the 'vh' sound in venda is pronounced like the 'b' sound in english. i'm so down with black people that i shared a pizza with the black gardener today.

damn, i'm black, i'm telling you!

What a mess, this whole thread just illustrates to me what a poor state of affairs SA is in. Guys like Capetonian688, thinking that AA/BEE is addressing the wrongs of the past blah blah blah..... what a read...

I will be ashamed to be labeled an African...Call me european, whitie, AMA-Bhulu, but dont call me an African. Africans are people like Zuma, Thabo Mbeki, Robert Mugabe, people who are directly responsible for the poor state of affairs in Southern Africa.

Again: racial classification is not discrimination. It is an administrative formality. Please indicate my post where I imply that it is blatant discrimination.

My son is as pale as an irish boy but still African-American!

Bring on the extra college funding in 17 years. lol

If you weren't a racist, if you didn't support discrimination you would abhor the use of the word African to designate only blacks. You would rightly cringe everytime you heard in knowing that it marginalizes a large section of your fellow South Africans. You would know that it gives a feeling of unwelcomeness and resentment to people who want to help shape this country, to make it great.

But obviously this is all ok with you as you are quite happy to tell white people that they don't, can't and never will belong here.

So answer me this then: your repeated refrain is that racial classification is not discrimination. But what purpose does the racial classification serve and how is it to be determined? Please give a step by step guide we can use to determine the race of any person we meet.

AA and BEE are not discrimination because it has been pardoned as such, since it is tools to correct the wrongs of Apartheid.

nonsense.

That is your riposte? Brilliant. You truly are a credit to debate.

I don't know how your mind works, but just because you and the government think you have legitimate reasons for discrimination, doesn't automagically make it not discrimination.

Edit: still waiting for the step by step guide to racial classification...

My surname has been in SA since Jan van Riebeeck came here. If I went to Europe I would be a foreigner. Which European that you know eats boerewors. My first language is Afrikaans. I say things like whozit and ag shame. I have never be outside of Africa. If I am not a African, then what am I?

Yes it does. BEE and AA has been approved by the High Court, Constitutional Court, Parliament and Government of SA, as allowed methods of correcting the wrongs of Apartheid. You didn't know that? Where have you been the last 13 years?
