RAIN 5G Gauteng NSA or SA thread

No not really. I want to say it's more stable but not sure feels about the same. I did not really have issues before. I guess we will have to see over the long run how it performs.

Upload is definitely more stable. It also reaches the peaks faster and does not vary in speeds as much as before so let's see how it goes.
This is the same as what I am seeing so far. Still getting around 200mbps and upload is big higher at 50mbps. Ping is again lower around 12 to 20ms.
Will see how it does in the long run. Hopefully this fix the packet loss I experience from 12pm to 3pm each day.

I'm now on SA with a new cell ID. Latency is meh, 16-35ms depending on local server.
Upload speeds now over 60Mbps which is great! Downloads normal at +-350Mbps depending on time of day.

So after being on SA for a while. My upload speeds are much better but my download speeds are much slower. Especially in the evenings my download speeds go down to around 30 Mbps. Max I get now is 100 Mbps. Used to get between 200 and 300 Mbps.

Been getting 30Mbps+ on both up and down for past year and half. All of a sudden can't even get more than 5Mbps stable. :( I am in Lambton / germiston area. Perfect signal. I think the tower is around 600m away from me.

Hi, please PM me your email address that you registered on rain with. We will investigate straight away

Something is wrong with your CPE. The fact that you lost 5G signal means tower is already on SA your CPE did not switch over. I tested it with my old Huawei H112-370 and it only gets 4G. Doesn't support SA 5G.

You might need to contact Rain to swap your CPE.

Ok. So was busy with RAIN guys late this afternoon. Turns out old ODU unit does not support SA after all. RAIN tech guys were busy investigating with Huawei to see what could work. We got TR-069 connected but having to code support for this unit seemed to be counterproductive if there were already units in circulation supporting SA.

I have a team coming out tomorrow to install another unit. Will likely be the case for everyone else with the older ODU units.

Thank for support @rain_mobile @rain_networks. Nice to see guys working in background on a Sunday trying to support customers

Yeah i had a chat to someone and just told them, swap the unit out for the new unit wasnt gonna waste my time with the one that did NSA only.
Should get a call from them tomorrow to arrange delivery of the new unit.

Bit weird that they didnt think of this

I thought this was the main reason they where collecting the old Outdoor unit with the Q2 inside.

When they came to collect mine the guy had 10 in the boot and 9 on the back seat and new units to replace.

I dont have my Q2 unit anymore so eish will have to see what they say

Back up as of this morning. Guys came and installed the CPE-X which I have proven does not have the grunt the old ODU has and once again it shows in terms of signal strength and consistency. To early to tell but no real notable change in DL, UL does seem to be better however with around a 10Mbps increase.

Was speaking to ground team today and they did admit that there were some teething issues with NSA>SA switch over relating to some scripts VODACOM did not load but that should be sorted now. With 5G SA now we should also see some improvements in speed as things get tweaked.

Regarding 4G fallback. I was told that there will be 4G fallback but you wont necessarily see 4G light up on your router. Was also told that the 4G fallback on SA should be a lot better. I'm hoping so as I had a taste of 4G fallback on NSA these last three days without 5G and it was abysmal to say the least.

My 5G been dead since Friday. Support said they will contact me later.

and what have if you force it to SA and lock it to SA ?

Yup. That was the issue was on AUTO. On top of that I see guys that installed new unit were not pointing it right direction. Have been in contact with guys talking to sites (very helpful), we made a few tweaks real time and it has improved. Getting good line of site.

Rain 5G at full signal.

Unfortunately my 5G has been really crap since switching over to SA. Used to get great speeds. Now my signal is the same but speeds are really horrible. And tonight it's barely working.
