RAIN 5G Gauteng NSA or SA thread

Still waiting. SA 5G might actually boost my speeds a bit especially upload speeds.

So with 5G SA (stand alone) being phased in over some parts of Gauteng starting this week please sound off if you have being switched and whether or not you see an improvement overall and what area you are located in.
Hi, noticed on Friday 2 Oct (without any Rain notification) that my 4G led was no longer lit on the 5G router and that internet was super slow with high latency. Actually logged a call with Rain thinking this was a router fault (still no reply by the way). After reading your comments and checking router software interface realised that mode had switched from NSA to SA. I have manually switched back to NSA and functionality has restored. Not sure if SA mode will be ultimately enforced on customers though, so future is unknown . . . Winchester Hills Ext 1 JHB area.

Cheers

Have had reports of some SA switch overs in Rietfontein (Pretoria). Checked my router and have lost 5G link. Only 4G active. Maybe something happening in background.

Well, was switched over to SA last night.

Centurion - Rooihuiskraal.
Seems I am connecting to the Reeds tower (cnr Bothrill and Sacharia)
Speed is currently good - will have to see if it lasts ....
Ping is horrible - hope that improves or get fixed.

Also switched over to SA only (Pta North). Will check speeds later to see if there is any improvement.

It's not I have a Huawei H112-370 the very first version and it does not pick up 5G anymore. So I wonder how many people on these legacy routers have lost connection now and if the New 5G CPE Pro 2 supports SA because people on the R699 package get them.

This basically makes my old Huawei H112-370 CPE Pro useless for Rain network now since NSA is no longer supported. On a side note 4G still works on the 5G sim but I'm curious how it will work when the CPE is on 5G SA will it fall back to 4G if the 5G goes down during power cuts? My 5G tower goes down during loadshedding and always had 4G as backup. Slow around 10Mbps or so but still good enough to do something. What happens now on SA 5G?

Tried that. I see there is no option for SA in drop down. Will check back later.

Something is wrong with your CPE. The fact that you lost 5G signal means tower is already on SA your CPE did not switch over. I tested it with my old Huawei H112-370 and it only gets 4G. Doesn't support SA 5G.

You might need to contact Rain to swap your CPE.
