Rain 5G just keeps getting slower and slower...

Just do it.
I sucked up sh!tty service for 2 years - same story as 90% here - speeds keep falling, disconnects, no support through their official channels, sarcastic support staff.
Made the move to fiber - never looked back - no throttling, no issues downloading anything, no issues working from home (VPN), no issues connecting to my alarm system, kids no issues playing xbox or PC games - only regret is that I stuck with RAIN for 2 years and even then I have to thank them - as it was one of their support staff that pushed me over the edge when he told me " well if you not happy with this, just move ISP " - and I did - best advice I ever got :)

And ?

5G basic now down to 26/27mbps download. I see upload is a tad higher, so not sure if this is just today or a trend. I'll see in the coming days/weeks...Screenshot_20220627-202939_1.jpg

It seems several people have the option of fibre but have stuck with 5G. Boggles the mind.
Well honestly rains 5g is worth it if you ask me and those people would agree it only becomes a problem if the towers gives problems but other than that it’s worth more than a fibre line …

Well generally speaking 5G is mobile, fibre is at your home. It's not meant to necessarily replace fibre, but rather a future 4G successor.

I am sure it depends on the situation, and what you use it for.
Also if you need support or not.
Originally I was also of the opinion that RAIN 5G was more than I even needed, and I stuck with them for over 2 years - so its not just a opinion, I experienced it first hand.

But as they kept over selling the product - speeds dropped and they started doing all sorts of shaping and throttling behind the scenes to cope with the traffic - not going to get into an argument of what is throttled and what not - and we talking premium package.

In my case it was not a tower issue - was checked multiple times - tower was fine, installation was fine - signal was excellent, line of sight to tower 800m away.

There is many reasons that it stopped being viable to me.
Biggest reason is that they throttle VPN - this is a BIG issue as both me and my wife works from home - so both VPN into work networks - and that setup got throttled to death - having a teams meeting was almost impossible...
And it is not just the VPN connection that is throttled - if there is an active VPN connection - the whole 5G connection is throttled.
Some interesting shaping happening behind the scenes - I would get a speedtest of over 400Mbps and still youtube would buffer watching 1080 stream.
Unexplained speed drops - some times stuck to sub 10Mbps for weeks.
Gaming - semi useless - if you just semi competitive in any online game where ping is important - you are doomed - with ping spikes between 500 and 1500ms.
My list does on - but I'm just rehashing.

Then support - basically non-existent - that is why most people run here and complain and look for help.
Try phoning them and get help - most of the time unreachable.
Online ticket logging - tickets either gets closed with no solution, or just lies un attended.

You just have to look at their ISP ratings and do a bit of a search on the web, maybe have a look at hello peter, and see what is the real status of things.

As for it being worth more than a fiber line - I'm not so sure - maybe if you compare against worst fiber ISP, but if you have a half decent ISP - it out perform it in any way you look at it. Uncapped, unshaped, low latency, reliable.

But hey - if it works for you - I am happy for you.
Everybody makes their own decisions
