Rain 5G just keeps getting slower and slower...

It's incredible, fibre is getting faster and cheaper but 5G is getting worse.

January 2020 : Due to no fibre being in my area, and the removal of the copper telephone lines, I joined Rain and got a blazing fast 400Mbps connection on 5G Premium, well worth the R999pm.
September 2020 : Rain launches R699 Standard 5G package.
December 2020 : My 5G Premium speeds are averaging around 300Mbps. Still worth it, considering that 200Mbps Vumatel fibre through Afrihost would cost R148 more.
September 2021 : Rain launches R499 Basic 5G package and increases Standard speeds by 66%.

October 2021 : I haven't moved the router to another room, it's still getting the same -75dBm signal that used to be good for 400Mbps.

My 5G Premium speeds are now averaging around 125Mbps :

The speeds have dropped over 68% in just over 1.5 years.
I guess this is going the same way as 4G albeit more slowly, more and more users loaded on the same infrastructure bringing down the speeds bit-by-bit until it's not worth it anymore.

Really sad to see, only positive is that my connection is quite stable and Rain 5G still provides some decent coverage for those outside of fibre areas.

Same here, I would be lucky if my speed gets to 200mbs my problem isn't even speed is the connection

I am experiencing the same recurring issues for some days now, it has been roughly a week or so and my internet connectivity as well as the speeds are so poor I have screenshots for reference, However I do understand what seems to be the issue in some degree. I know that the 5G tower closest to me, either has an issue or it is reserved for someone else. Using the mobile app I have logged many support tickets, I have received 1 phonecall to check what issues I am having, And yet the issues persist.
The first Months have been astonishingly great, I was happy to hear about the upgrade in speeds! This was the selling point for me and I am an extremely happy client. However this is only if the service I pay for is working.

I have to agree with you - about 3 years ago I got a SIM from Rain to test, and got around 1 Mbps and under.
Re-tested it last month and speeds were up to around 2 Mbps.

However, have canx. the SIM as I don't think Rain have enough infrastructure in the small "dorp" of PE ... not in my part, anyway.

Well, he'd definitely be dropping to <5Mbps on 4G.

5G is great, but it's not really at the point of being a fiber replacement in denser areas, it's great for high density if e.g. all just using for phone or something, not if everyone is utilizing it.
5G definitely has its place, and even in the OP it still seems to be a good option. I think with OP the question is probably going to be tower backhaul rather than the actual 5G connection based on stable etc.

Anyone getting like fast speed tests like around 8-10 Mbps but if they try download anything or update anything they barely get 200-300Kbps? Yet during that I can run a speed test and get 2-4Mbps. Something isn't adding up. It's like the speed tests get full bandwidth but if you try to actually do anything it's throttled?

Plus rain seems to suffer heavily when doing multiple requests.

I struggle these days to play some crap on You tube (at 320/480 res, just background noise) and get some CS GO time...Either the CS pings at 300+ odd or the you tube just buffers endlessly...I cant use Showmax anymore...
I want to try MTN seeinfg how they now have some better PAYG packages.

Bit of an update on this, 9pm peak time speeds today (March) - 85Mbps down and a weak 25Mbps up. Speed has dropped by over 78% in just over 2 years.

Was I right or was I right ? It's like being on a sinking ship, at some point I'm going to have to switch which is flippen annoying.
