Been having some fairly on/off constant rain here in Constantia since late last night/early morning....
Wonder if it's more than a few mm.
Nice and cool and cloudy for a welcome change..

same here in Somerset West

12mm in gauge here (house sitting in Rondebosch). Was definitely a stormy night, but pleasantly cool this morning.

Edit: A few decent rainfall amounts, but mostly near the mountains: http://www.weathersa.co.za/images/data/climate/nr_daily_rai.pdf
Highest include Kirstenbosch 17mm, Langgewens (Swartland) 13mm, Malmesbury 12mm, Wellington 11mm, Paarl 10mm, etc.

There will definitely be a cold front reaching the SW-Cape on 25 Dec, but it is premature to talk about snow forecasts 7 days in advance.

There have been several weak cold fronts brushing the SW-Cape in the last few days, but this morning (Thurs 26th) there is a real one! I woke up to strong winds, rain, and very cold temperatures. The rain should clear later, but the cold conditions will spread across the entire southern and eastern half of the country during the next day or two.

6mm rain in the gauge so far this morning. 13mm in Kenilworth for the whole day.

Edit: The SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment station recorded close to 40mm during this event. However, don't expect much runoff, due to the very low soil moisture during summer.

This is the weirdest out of season weather I’ve ever experienced in Cape Town. A typical winter northwester gale... over Christmas!! This is unheard of. Although they’re pretty much the default weather during winter, northwesters are highly unusual in summer, they basically just don’t happen after October. This is the weather equivalent of having snow in the middle of summer.

That's a bit OTT...I've lived here all my life and we have irregular weather during December.

There's a running joke that it always rains in CT on New Years Day, mostly due to an irregular cold front.

I wish some of this made its way to the Kruger Park area, I had 42 degrees on Christmas day... Needless to say most humans followed the lead of the hippos and retreated to the closest watering hole

Its always rained in Cape Town over Christmas, or at least plenty of years it has.

Patience, tomorrow (Sat 28th) will be warm in the west, and cool in the east:

Been a very nice summer so far, not too hot. Feels cooler than previous years. Perfect for holidays.

Drizzle tomorrow morning (Sun 5th) as another cold-front passes offshore. Perfect weather in Cape Town is often followed by a change in conditions...

A change is as good as a holiday they say.
Oh wait, it is holiday season.

Well no drizzle - just a very light light spit for a few secs. Had a nice run to Kirstenbosch, nice to have some cloud overhead to keep it cooler, nice little breeze blowing too.
