Walked around the estate before coming to work this morning, huge downpour sometime during the wee hours, but must say I am disappointed about the cold,........ I was expecting way colder air, this is just so disappointing, I postponed today's braai because I was expecting icy stuff......

Another 20mm in our gauge in Kenilworth overnight. The cumulative total for this event is about 130mm!

Edit: SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek catchment) recorded 200mm up to midnight, with some further showers this morning.

The real-time updates for the Berg River Dam show sustained inflows, with a 2 day increase of about 7% to around 89% at 6am this morning (another 1% to 90% in the 6 hours up to midday). This dam always fills first due to its mountain catchment location, and the excess will be pumped into Theewaterskloof soon (Eskom permitting!?)

It's quite troubling to think that Eskom's woes could now conceivably impact the recovery of our dams as well.

I started from Kloof Nek today, up Platteklip, Maclears, drop Skeleton and back on contour with a few detours

Cool. I always start at Newlands & don't often go to Skeleton / Kirstenbosch area. Be cool to do that route some time.

was a good storm over the weekend at Theewaterskloof Dam
5 overturned caravans and a tree crushed 1 caravan
dam level is looking great and there are streams on all the mountains flowing heavily
lots and lots of snow as well

After a brief respite today (Sun 12th), with mild and sunny conditions over Cape Town, another powerful cold-front will brush the SW-Cape overnight (into Mon 13th). This will bring moderate amounts of rain, very strong winds, cold conditions, and further widespread snow, extending into Tues 14th.

This chart shows the tightly spaced isobars, as well as the rain restricted mostly to the SW-Cape only:

Sadly, I don't think we will get much more rain, reports that we had 21mm this past week..... this is stunning and reflects our average from the 70's.....

Less planes, more rain, makes one think.....

Yep! indeed..... I have a mate who is a dentist and a herb/plant type and he came back home recently, He enjoys walks in the desert int he early morning and sent me snaps , he was pretty excited at finding new life in the desert after the rains.....

The snails came out from under the ground in search of food....



These be purple desert snails....



And the dormant plants under the sands started coming to life...



The dry pan to the South of the town also started to fill again, this is an important wetland for birds and has been in dire straits due to the drought!
