Rain and storm for Cpt

Jesus. This ****ing wind!!! I tried to braai,but thought **** it.

So overnight we are getting rain?
 
We have definitely had more rain than I expected, based on the model predictions! Quite showery episodes, but torrential when it comes down. I recorded about 45mm in our gauge here in Kenilworth this morning.

The SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment station recorded 43mm up to midnight, and plenty more early this morning. Further rain is expected throughout today (and during the week).

The downpour has produced a moderate inflow (25m^3/sec) into the Berg River Dam, which had been in gradual decline during the dry spell of the last two weeks. The level has increased by 0.5% to 97.5% this morning (Sun 9th).

Update: The midday chart shows a peak runoff of 55m^3/sec, with a sharp level increase of 1% to 98.5%.

Whats the outlook for rain after this week Gordon? Is this the big winter rains, or can we expect more over the next few weeks

I don't deal with long-term forecasts, and the recent 7-10 day outlook has been fickle. Weather is always unpredictable, and having lived in Cape Town for more than 50 years, I can tell you that no two winters are exactly alike...

I know it sounds boring, but the most useful guide is the 30 year average rainfall for CT airport, as recorded on many databases: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Town#Climate

August is the last of the heavy rainfall months, but September plus October together can be as wet as August.

We in tulbach for weekend and torrential rain and wind whole of today since 03:46 this morning
 
Dwarsberg station numbers wrong at 23.6mm for yesterday, closer to 75mm or thereabouts. Both Clanwilliam and Berg at +100%. Keen to see Theewaterskloof numbers tomorrow :-)
