A cutoff-low/Black South Easter will develop along the SW-Cape coast on Wed 5th, and persist for several days. The amount of rainfall is very difficult to predict (even one day in advance), but could reach 25-50mm in places. The peak is likely to be in the Overberg, and limited to coastal areas (and offshore).

The charts show something like this:

Well called

Well called

The numbers were actually way more than 50mm in places. However it is both difficult to make this call, avoid being alarmist, and also disappointing a lot of people who get zero rain. Can't please everyone...

It's not over yet, and remnants of the system are likely to linger until Fri 7th.

Looks and Sounds like we got hit and the party is about to start

bit of nice BIG droplets falling now but not still heavy just enough to say its gonna start soon

Cut off low has moved more inland, slightly weaker and spread out more over a larger area. next 24 hours shows majority of the rainfall. 24 hour forecast sees 50mm in Somerset West falling and 70mm over 72hrs.
90mm in Caledon over 24hrs 120mm over 72hrs.
If it moves more inland flood risks for narrow areas like the Montagu and Barrydale passes etc forecast 50mm over 24hrs

Seems most of the rain fall in the Bredasdorp-Elim-Struisbaai nexus, and surrounding catchment areas. 122mm of rain at Struisbaai via SAWS last 24hrs.
Though Someone drowned crossing the brederiver in Bonnivale and Meiringpoort N12 was temp closed due to flooding.

Rain is always Welcome - just not STORM rain - but Rain is welcome to fill the DAMS so that our Government or political parties cannot turn around and say we need water restrictions but first lets up the monthly stipulation of cash

Approximately 100mm recorded at the Dwarsberg weatherstation in Jonkershoek mountains over the last 2 days.

Spoke to a friend yesterday and they had at that stage approx 280mm of rain on their farm in the Riviersonderend region and it was still raining at that point.
