A weak trough moving down from the Northern Cape is causing isolated instability. It was shown on the charts this morning, and there were some impressive clouds at sunset. I was not expecting lightning, so that was definitely a surprise.
The sunny and mild weather today will not last. Conditions will deteriorate over the next few days, with significant rain on Sun 4th and some snow over the high mountains by Mon 5th.
Its not going to be significant amount of rain, its going to rain a po3s lot, just say it Gordon!
Also had thunder and a few drops of rain here in Kuils River.
Was a nice summer's day here in Cape, yet my dad just said they're being blown away in Betty's Bay ... Apparently last night was the worst wind they've had since moving there about 1½ years ago![]()

You have to look at the synoptic chart, with a weak surface low over Cape Town, and very tight isobars along the southern Cape coast:

It actually did rain quite hard over here (Kraaifontein). My flat is on the first floor and I could hear it raining outside. It wasn't all that long though. Probably 5 or 10 minutes. It's not often in cpt we get thunder and lightning without much or any rain.
