The cutoff-low has evolved into another phase overnight. I woke at 1am to find the wind has swung to north-westerly, and it is raining steadily in Kenilworth (for about an hour). This reinforces the idea that COLs are hard to predict, as they evolve and meander on their own timetable (contrary to forecasts).

P.S. It is definitely much cooler than the same time yesterday, as cold upper air and precipitation transfer down to surface layers.

Edit: 15mm in our gauge in Kenilworth this morning.

Between last week's rain (Thurs 25th) and last night's heavy falls, the Berg River Dam is now close to 92% of capacity and climbing: https://www.dws.gov.za/Hydrology/Unverified/RTGraph.aspx?Station=G1R004FW&Type=Flow&Rain=N

I won't say the models predicted that amount of rain for Betty's Bay, but heavy falls were always possible.

The SAWS reports widespread moderate rainfall during the 24 hours to 8am on Tues 30th. Of note were Noupoort 35mm and De Aar 27mm in the Northern Cape. Highest in the Western Cape were Franschhoek 86mm and Villiersdorp 52mm, with lesser amounts over the Little Karoo, etc. There were also scattered falls over the interior of the Easten Cape.
