Yup, I recognized most of the pics, know that part of the Peninsula pretty well.

Hmm. Well I took my Toyota Yaris XS up Paarl rock, I was a bit baffled why soo many 4x4s stopped along the route until I got near the top. Yet the Yaris made it. The 4x4 drivers were looking at me horrified though. And then the Yaris made it down again, complete with 4 adults and 2 kids in it.

However Goodyear tyres are crap. Once my front new tyres are worn out I will go back to Bridgestones.
 
Bags packed for the Matroosberg. Cheese, tomato & avo and egg mayo sarmies made. Fresh white and brown loaves. Just deciding whether to take the Q5 or Q7. Leaving at 4am.

Paarl rock (most roads) are pretty much okay. There are only one or two sections that are a bit hairy. I did it all in normal drive and 4X4 high for the bd sections. So yes it is actually about the driver more than the vehicle. And a small car loaded like you were tends to ensure good traction.

I'm still waiting for inflow over the next few days (it always takes a while after heavy rain). The SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment recorded 124mm during the 24 hours up to midnight.The Berg River Dam was at 93% yesterday evening (6pm on Sun 7th), and I expect it to overflow by the middle of this week. Edit: The level of the Berg River Dam rose by more than 2% overnight, exceeding 95% this morning (6am on Mon 8th).

The temperature at 2am SAEON Dwarsberg was -1.4C (at 1200m elevation), so it will be snowing over a wide area this morning. Note that the rain gauge (hourly readings) will not work properly until the snow melts.

Edit: Wind speeds reached a peak of 84km/h on SAEON Dwarsberg (strong but not exceptional).

And we’re off. Nice bit of hail just before we left. Will fill up at the Kraaifontein Fuel 1 for cheap diesel. Thinking R46.

Lekker cheap diesel. Never seen snow here like this. Extremely low down on Bo-Swaarmoed Road. FWD cars and taxis are stuck and blocking some of big sides of the road, making higher-up access difficult. Couple 4x4s passing but it seems most are erring on the side of caution.

crazy winds and rain here in CPT, So strange, it starts and stops and rains when you least expect it to,
was so nice and warm just before the storms, really strange weather, guess y'all used to this, unlike us Gautengers that never seen anything like it before.

Meant to be doing the Bastille Day trail run in Franschhoek this coming Saturday but doubt it's going to happen as there are several river crossings as part of the route. Wouldn't surprise me if parts of the trail have been washed away as well. Apparently they're expecting up to 110mm of rain on Thursday.

glad you made it up okay, good traction control. looks like a proper dump.
Forecast was showing about 20cm of snow at about 1200m.
Lots of people stuck and all passes up from ceres were closed this morning at 630/7am, due to dangerous road conditions and amount of ppl stuck in snow.
