YTD approx. ~50mm behind 2019 and ~240mm behind 2018. That said 2019 was highest year in last 6 with ~2903mm.

Monday's rain produced very little runoff due to low soil moisture, but yesterday there was a significant spike in the level of the Berg River dam (only). See: http://www.dwa.gov.za/Hydrology/Unverified/RTGraph.aspx?Station=G1R004FW&Type=Flow&Rain=N

Still a few days in the future, but looks like from TUE arvie we gonna get a decent bout of rain into THU :-)

The models are still fluctuating, but there is a potential for a significant wind storm event on Wed 10th. Prolonged heavy rainfall is likely across the SW-Cape, as well as the West Coast and South Coast, but not extending very far inland. Conditions will be very cold, with significant snow likely over the mountains on Thurs 11th, potentially spreading to the Drakensberg on Fri 12th.

The CT council workers have been cleaning autumn leaves from stormwater drains recently. Will need to do a check on Tuesday, since strong winds are likely to blow off the last remaining leaves. Totals in excess of 50mm in 24 hours are likely to cause localised flooding in places.
 
I picked up one of those foldable hoses from Builders and with the 2, 3-odd days' rain we had in Cape Town last week my pool is almost overflowing.

These hoses make a massive difference :thumbsup:

Seen a lot of council trucks clearing storm water drains on the R27 too. They do it yearly though before the winter rains.
 
The rain for this event will be limited mainly to the coast, but the temperature drop will be experienced across most of the country (and southern Namibia). This chart shows the likely maximums for Thurs 11th:

Today (Tues 9th) is just a buildup before the main event. There were indeed some ominous high level convective clouds, and a few spatters of raindrops while I was out walking the dog. Otherwise an incredible day with barely a breath of wind, and hard to believe that in 12-18 hours its all going to be very different!

The forecast remains pretty much unchanged. Its a big one!

Overcast , thick low cloud cover, deathly quiet with hardly a breath of wind and temperature unseasonally warm for nighttime...

Calm before the storm.
