The cheap plastic ones are available at any Garden Store. Seems the pole costs more than the gauge itself...

Highest include Kirstenbosch 41mm, CT Airport (WO) 19mm, Molteno Reservoir (CBD) 19mm, etc. Bellville Golf Course recorded 9mm.

I post this chart occasionally, as a schematic of rainfall variations around Cape Town:

I want to build sensors for Gov, especially Air Quality, doesn't seem to be big in South Africa, unlike the US where sensors are everywhere.

Weather Sensors are so easy to build
 
It is really coming down now in Durbanville. Hopefully this rain will also hit the Theewaterskloof dam. The Cape Town dam levels are already 10% behind this time last year.

I won't survive another summer with severe water restrictions. I'm still struggling with the emotional damage from the last round.

Hmmm..

I am a stone's throw away from that golf course and recorded 48.4mm thus far..

Check the SAWS updates daily, or remind me. Always interesting to see regional variations...

Edit: I assume some of the rain in Bellville is due to orographic effects from the adjacentTygerberg Hills.

Definitely getting cooler, as the wind direction swings to WSW.

The Black river looks like it’s near to bursting its banks, another 50cm and it’s over, another day like today and its going to be a real mess out there.
 
I got stranded in Paarden Eiland. Road flooded. Water was deeper than I thought - engine completely died, and had to get towed out. My car floated when other vehicles drove past and pushed a wake of water past.

Just hope the engine isn't hydro-locked and will start once everything dries out. It's at the panel beaters for assessment. :(

Just checked our gauge in Kenilworth again. Cumulative total of 105mm in the last 24 hours!? No flooding here, but it's not over yet...

Neighbour just said she saw video of the canal running through Pinelands overflowing (joins up with the Black River).
