RAIN Huawei 5G CPE Pro settings

Hi all, I have a HUAWEI 5G Outdoor CPE Model: N5368X. But I am only getting like 180/23 on 5G on average, and often massive ping spikes, even to rain.co.za itself as well. Has anyone tried the advanced settings like, locking to 5G, or setting the antenna mode to fixed? I am not getting any response from rain at this time on what to use, they have been to the property, and replaced the previous device with the ODR unit, which is now mounted above the roof. But still if I do video calls, I get times where it breaks, or MS teams tells me I have bad network. Any advice would be appreciated.

By the looks of those stats signal is not your issue.

My stats on a good day is

5G RSRP-96dBm
5G SINR 7dB

Now I'm connecting to a 5G tower ~1.3KM away because of my closest one being hit by lightning and offline since yesterday

5G RSRP-113dBm
5G SINR 3dB

Get around 100-130Mbps

Is this any good Sir?

Network Type: NSA
Signal Intensity: LTE (-57 dBm)NR (-80 dBm)
Signal Quality: LTE (30 dB)NR (10 dB)
RSSI: -36
PLMN: 65573
5G MCS: UL (26)DL (1)
5G BLER: 12.50 %
5G CQI: 7
5G RANK: 0

I have mine on fixed mode with 720 hour cycle the rest I have not touched. Where is Lock Frequency, do not have that feature in ODU back end.

Is Fixed Mode for devices with external antenna's only?

I have the the exact same issue regarding the connection breaking and MS teams network performance. The strange thing is that I have a Rain Off-peak sim(Which I intended to cancel) in another cheaper indoor modem and it never ever drops the connection although the performance fluctuates - I now use it for my VC's! It makes no sense.

Hi All

Anyone with an idea how can one enable VPN on the HUAWEI 5G Outdoor CPE Model: N5368X ?

I am thinking of IP Passthrough for now as I want to run some test first using a mesh network VPN Setting.

Locking you 5G on 5G NR n78 will give stability and but speed is something else as a number of factors affect the speed throughput but locking it to 5G is a great idea

Does anyone know of a admin username/password combination that will work to login to the web interface without having to climb on to the roof to manually reset it? I set a new password when setting it up and never recorded it and the usual passwords aren't working.

Not sure have only played with the enterprise unit I got (not hybrid). Also from what I have noticed regardless if you are in fixed mode I think RAIN deliberately fixes/latches you to tower closest to you. A month back I was all over the place. CELLID has not changed since regardless if in fixed or auto mode.

I have also noticed this, Skype seems fine, MS Teams and whatsapp video calls break my connection.

I had the same problem with random internet drops and massive spikes. What fixed it for me was going into antenna settings in "system -> antenna" and changed the 'Select Mode:' from 'Auto' to 'Fixed' and apply. You can change the 'Antenna Combine Index', it's the combination of antennas which can be used on the device. The arrows in red shows the antenna combination for the selected 'Antenna Combine Index', more details can be read in the user help manual (as shown below). The 'TX Antenna' is the antenna currently used, respective to the 'Antenna Combine Index'.

I notice the random drops and spikes happen when the 'Select Mode:' is in 'Auto' and the router auto selects an antenna combination which is not optimal and packets starts dropping. An incorrect 'Antenna Combine Index' will use the incorrect antenna and leave you with no/slow internet.

Hope this will help you, as this helped me and my connection is now rock solid.

Edit: The manual can be found when you log into the CPE and click on the 'help' button on the top right.

Hi. Could I ask what software you‘re using to collect the data and do the graphs?

Hi
Thanks for this! I also have the issue with Ms Teams and VC on occasion. I spent a little time this evening trying each combine index and I was really surprised at the massive difference between with different settings.
Worst was 34 down and 3 up
Best was 305 down and 30 up - image shows the signal info.79F62933-E3ED-41E7-B29B-4AC0F6B262A9.jpeg
Have now set it to fixed and will see next week if it makes a difference to my MS Teams VC's
Just curious which software release you (and anyone else) is on? Mine is:
Software version: V200R001C00SPC232 (N5368X Outdoor CPE)

Hi All

I have locked the router on 5G Network subset band n78 and also put my antenna to 'fixed mode " and a lot has improved.

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our connection has been very frustrating today, to the point I went up on the roof, to try and reposition the CPE.
I went through all the combinations on my router, found combination 3 works so good. With all the other combinations I noticed my TX Antenna would change to a number, on 3 it would lock to C. I also changed the 'Select Cycle' to 720 hours, won't do anything. Hopefully it stays like this

I am having the same issue with Rain. Do I just go through each of the 10 antenna settings until I find one that gets me a fast connection? Or is there a better way of doing it?

Yes go for 1 to 10 running speed test on speed.rain.co.za every time you apply the settings

Great, thanks will do. If I want to set the band to n78, what value do I use for Arfcn and do I need to do anything with Lock PCI?
