I use my Rain R250 uncapped at work and at home its not locked to any tower.

I was under the notion that @WarriorWolf was using Rain Fixed LTE so looking for an alternative would be in line with looking at the new MTN fixed LTE options hence my comment on being locked down. But if mobile then yea those are not locked down and not much else is out there in terms of comparable value for money

I am using the rain LTE, but it's not locked to a single location. I was still able to use rain while I was 30 KM away from where I live. I currently use it in my phone, which makes it a lot easier than having a seperate WIFI device.

This MTN deal would've been mostly ideal had it not been locked to one location and I wasn't forced to pay extra for a seperate device. I could've cut down my data usage and then taken the 60GB+60GB deal, but now it's no longer an option.

EDIT: I just checked the sign-up process for the MTN and when I check for coverage, it only gives me Telkom LTE as an option. So looks like issues aside, I wouldn't have been able to get it regardless.

Ah by saying you are able to use it on the phone then that is indeed Rain Mobile and not the now unavailable Rain Fixed LTE which could only work on certain routers. The reason this deal is fixed to a location is because it is a Fixed LTE product - not a mobile product like Rain Mobile. So by all indications this will not serve your purpose because you cannot even use it in a mobile.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification. I always thought the "Fixed" part meant that it's locked to specific devices, which made it even more confusing once I saw people saying that rain is no longer locked to specific devices.

Lol that too. The whole fixed to one tower was not made super clear by other ISP's/providers hence the slight discomfort when its presented front and center as part of the deal. It still does not change anything as MTN Fixed LTE is meant to be used only in a particular location that you pick when you sign up.

I would suggest stick to Rain mobile and give them hell till you see you are getting your money's worth. They are quite good on my end and despite an issue here and there its pretty much smooth sailing.

I'm still waiting to switch over to something else. My monthly data that I use is at least 200GB a month and so far I have found nothing that can beat rain's uncapped deal.

These new MTN deals initially made it a lot harder for me to keep sticking around, but then I saw the following:

"Please note that Pure LTE products are locked to a single location (specified by the client on signup). Service is only available using compatible LTE devices (specified by us)."

So I can't use it wherever I go and I can also only use it in 4 specific routers.

This throws affordability and usability straight out the window.

Thus, I'm still stuck.

I cancelled my rain uncapped because of the issues I am experiencing. The Rain fixed that is still in use is provided by Afrihost.

I have Telkom LTE as well but its not allowed access to our companny systems so its of no use for me to use for work, which is my primary usage.

Also have an issue with Rain. More down than up. Support guy stated it is because of load shedding ... Which we haven't had for a week. Sent them an email too.

Back up again after performing a reset on the router, maybe by accident, not sure.

I've had this issue on Monday and Rain support insisted that my tower was ok. It went down yesterday, Tuesday, rain support said it was down for "routine maintenance" came back on about 16:00 but kept on bumping me off the network. When the tower was down none of the two rain 4g networks showed in a network search. This morning the continual bumping that you have been experiencing happened again. I managed to manually connect to my usual network "65538 4G" and (hold thumbs) I haven't had a problem. This morning rain support admitted there was a problem.

Rain is down here in Paarl. Hopefully its to give us 5g.
The entire week I had slow speed in Sunnyside, Pretoria. We can get 5G coverage but have not applied yet.
At the expense of sounding like a conspiracy theorist would Rain throttle 4G in an effort to force one to switch to 5G
