Yes there is because it will give you access to Band 38 which the Telkom B618 does not have. With the Telkom B618 you will only run Rain on band 3 which from my experience is pretty poor but not always. So if band 3 works well for you then great the Telkom B618 will work the same as a Rain B618 on band 3.

If band 38 gives good speeds you will lose out on that because you won't have access to that band.
Thanks, cavedog.

Nope, sadly on Rain mobile they don't allow port forwarding. On their fixed packages they do however.
For real, that's iffy

Edit: thing is it worked on mine for some days, it's kinda broken now so...

Find that hard to believe, but if it did, guess you were just lucky then.
Yep it did, only stopped working late Thursday after setting up Saturday last week. Was good because I get more upload bandwidth on rain (compared to Hellkom LTE) which was great for external streaming

My uncapped sim divert me to the rain offline page. Anyone experience the same issue. It mentions that I need to increase my spend limit or my debit order didn't go through.?

Having this issue now, only happened this weekend though.

One support agent says they can't see anything wrong, another says that my debit didn't go through.
Dashboard shows no issues with my account, also has no option to pay if I am actually in arrears.

Support says there is a pay now option under the menu, but I do not have that option, can any one see it?

Also no notice of a missed payment, an no evidence on my bank accounts that they tried.

My payment also never went down for July, and this weekend my internet was down aswell. When I went to the dashboard there was a message that showed my outstanding amount and a option to either pay instantly or contact support. After I made the payment my internet was back online instantly

Okay thanks, seems I don't have that message, waiting for 'Tier 2' Support to contact me, 7 hours and counting.

unfortunately I have a feeling it wont be resolved for a while.

Also feel their tier 1 support is a waste of time, they should start their base level support with these tier 2 or someone remotely technical to handle some simple queries.

Neither of the level 1 support staff could 100% confirm that I was in arrears :(

I placed my order this past Saturday for a Rain SIM card. It was delivered just after 09:00 yesterday. My SIM was activated by the time I arrived home.

I inserted the SIM into my Telkom Huawei B618s-65d and added a new profile for Rain. Doing a speedtest, my results were as follows:
DL = 62Mb/s
UL = 17Mb/s

I am impressed.

Do you have Telkom LTE as well, how is it's performance? I have Telkom and RAIN----RAIN is the winner

Edit: For me downside with RAIN is no port forwarding

Yep, I've got Telkom LTE as well. Telkom is faster, with lower pings. Having said that please remember that I'm using a 618-65d instead of a 618-22d.

I don't do port forwarding, so can't really comment.

Hi ripclaw. What's the difference between the 618-65d and the 618-22d?. Which is the best to buy if one will be using Rain and Cell C LTE?.

Thanks, cavedog.

This answers my earlier enquiry to ripclaw. cavedog, my current Rain download and upload speeds average 20mbs and 13mbs respectively. Rain currently seems faster than Cell C in my end. I'm on a Huawei 315-936 router. Any idea if switching to a 618 would markedly improve download speed?. Interested in streaming 4k content.

From my personal experience (with Telkom LTE), I've had a B315 which used to get me around 60 to 70Mb/s. When I switched to a B618-65d, I now consistenly get speeds averaging around 100Mb/s. There was one night where I hit 140Mb/s.

Hope that this helps, mkhululi.mm

Had the same with Telkom, but it was probably mostly the LTE-A Carrier Aggregation on Telkom LTE-A which the B315 does not support

The B618 does not support Carrier Aggregation between the Rain LTE bands

I think Cavedog mentioned there still is a benefit with the B618 because it supports higher MIMO if I recall

Propably better antenna's or more antenna's picking up on the same frequency. So latency and speeds is a bit better. But it's not combining different Bands with Carrier Aggregation. Wish i could get CA :)
