Rain Mobile Feedback Thread

I have 2 question. I have rain signal on my router but 0 coverage on the map.Can I just order the uncapped sim and test it? Also can you disable the sim for lets say 3 months and then start using it again?

Hi Guys

Require some advice on my RAIN unlimited deal.

I received my sim last week, my internet is working fine at home in Bellville (use Huawei B513-2269 router) however it won't connect me here at work ) Beaconvale Parow.
The router shows full signal, LTE icon and WiFi icon.

Why can't I connect my phone (samsung j5 prime) to the router?

Any help/assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
ahf

The sim apparently doesn't expire.

Someone explain this to me. I'm currently on their 7 free day promotion, off-peak time speeds are 2-4mbps but peak time I'm getting 15-20mbps...

Shouldn't this be the other way around...?

So what's the point of the off-peak uncapped?

Maybe there are lots of off-peak uncapped users on your tower

I just got my sim from rain. Just one question can I put it in my phone and register to the network before it activated? I want to test the signal level at work.

@cavedog So no routers capable of aggregating signals?

Band 1 FDD and Band 38/41 TDD. I have yet to find a router capable. I'm sure there is one out there somewhere but it's not popular and to find technical datasheets for routers is hard too. So many different models of the same router it's almost impossible to find.

Take note of this. 4G+ so you are using a phone probably a Samsung or Chinese phone brand. It's Aggregating B1+B38 :) Something you won't see in a mifi or router.

Yep for sure this is on an S10+ . On my home router best I get is around 60 something. Are there any routers with the capabilities of these phones?

Edit: I see you already answered on alternative routers

Anyone have issue using peak data ?
I started having issues suddenly on Friday. This problem persisted the entire weekend as well. As soon as the peak data kicks in (6PM-11PM), my internet keeps disconnecting every few minutes. I'm able to go to the rain website, but nothing else works. I have to disable and re-enable the network to get it working for a few minutes again. Sometimes I have to restart the network multiple times before it starts working again.

This made for one hell of a frustrating weekend.

I stay in Nigel.

Yeah. I'm thinking their systems are borked, since it works perfectly right up until peak data kicks in.
Now the question is if it's on purpose or if someone incompetent did an oopsie.

I must say, I've been getting decent speeds, but the signal strength is a huge issue for me

Would be cool to write a decent router app for android (no need to root to get to iptables etc), pop in a usb-c ethernet adapter and have an awesome router

I have used my oneplus on my mikrotik over usb but I think the mirkotik usb port is the limiting factor

The usb tethering toggle on the oneplus also keeps disabling itself randomly

So i was wondering I got my Rain Sim about a month back connected to my B618 65d router with my External antenna, i get full bars (but only picks on 4g and not 4g+) and roughly speeds between 30mb to 60mb download and between 20 to 30 upload.

@cavedog a quick question ..... on my Telkom Lte I picked 4g+ on the same router, is there any settings I need to adjust to pick up 4g+ on my Rain sim and to increase those speeds. Thank you in advance :)

Well no router available locally that I know off allows for B3+B38/41 aggregation that is why you are not seeing 4G+ on the router. Might be better to switch to a B618s-22d as it supports Band 38/41 so you would be able to switch between the bands manually. THe -65d only supports Band 3 for Rain.
