Rain Mobile Feedback Thread

I see no reason for me to be on on Rain's Fixed LTE package. Speeds and latency look the same and it's unlimited for 15 days including option for unlimited off-peak? I'll be moving over once I receive my mobile sim.

Do you sleep between 6 and 11pm :p

Anyone else notice the free days run from when you created your account and not from activating the sims? Bit annoying.

FFS, you serious?

That means I'll only have 8 days as my delivery is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon

Log into your dashboard and see what the end date is for your free days. Although I think you only see it once activated. I'll screenshot just now.

Probably yeah, oh well if that is the case then I suppose 8 days is fine. It's not as if I'll be downloading the internet during that time :D

Only downloaded 10 odd gig since Saturday and service seems ok. Looks like P2P suffer during Peak times (Youtube seems to be where it truly shines doesn't matter what time or place I have tested getting 1080p with no slowdowns or waiting for stream to catch up.)

Decided to place sim in my Fixed line LTE at home to truly test Download via http & Steam will see how it performs both peak and off peak.

Edit: Forgot to mention the reason I downloaded so little is cause of gaming. Played GW2 the weekend and last night. Games are OK till 8 PM then you can forget about it, High pings and low bw eats you alive with GW2 bombing out every 10 to 30 minutes. Funny enough when I gave up last night I went to go watch Youtube at 1080p with no problems at all.

TLDR: So RAIN is not gamer friendly in the evenings.

Maybe it's just your location, or GW2.

I played Dota, and have had no issues since getting the sim on Sunday.

I limit my "linux distro"s to 4meg a sec, so basically half of what I get. It does 20gb an hour, which is still screaming fast., and have no issues, low ping etc.

I am just having issues with VPN though. ExpressVPN at best only get's 2megabit both ways. on L2TP or PPTP.

I can use OpenVPN - TCP protocol, But that still only gets up to 35 at best. Losing half the speed.

Any advise?

I mostly stream on the weekend... but now that I think about it best I keep my fixed LTE contract.

I like it as an extra for those steam updates etc. So difficult to game and not be online and games are huge these days.

For the crap of it, I installed battle.net, and decided to do all the Blizzard games, 6 of them. 110gb to download. To see how long it would take, and if there is any FUP type stuff. I started at 11pm last night, my PC shut itself down just after 3am, after being Idle for 30mins.

It moves close to 40gb an hour. Steam peaks at 11meg a second.

I am well impressed.

Not bad, not bad at all. If that type of speeds remains on offer for R250 a month, then I'll be set until I have access to fibre at my complex :)

True this is the next best thing since that Telkom 500gb after hours.

Any gamers around that I can PM - need some info/insight/details - want to set foot in the gaming world now that data is less of a problem.
