Rain Mobile Feedback Thread

Afrihost (possibly other ISPs) seem cheaper than the Rain R50/Gig offer. They are also not contract-based. And you get subsidised modems.

The majority of people (me included) took this offer for the R250 / month for the uncapped portion which runs from 11pm to 6pm. I have no interest in any fixed packages whatsoever.

You're effectively locked into one if you decide to cancel within six months of taking out a package. There's a R999 cancellation fee for the "month-to-month" contract.

You can buy your device outright to avoid that cancellation fee.

I suppose thats true.. but it's not like i'm gonna stream 4k video all the time. So if i watch a music video or maybe a game or product review i like to see how it will look in real life. <specially for game reviews>

yeah. it is what it is.

You're an early adopter to a service that will eventually offer uncapped internet over LTE-A with 4K streaming. At this point I don't think they can afford to allow bandwidth to be consumed by those services so quickly. Cell towers would become even more overloaded if people were allowed to stream at 4K, and I'd be surprised if Netflix was at 4K during peak time as well.

Not sure if Rain is also going that route but 5G is going to be a game changer.. From what I read (and the rumours). 5G will be faster than 100mbit constantly. Even talks of over 300mbit true speed. Only time will tell

Ah, but watch some of the South African mobile players milk the cost of data for 5G.
