Rain Mobile Feedback Thread

Anyone experiencing issue with incoming connections to RAIN Fixed Wireless?

Seems all services are blocked since this morning, yet outgoing is working fine.

Patchy coverage. Horrible indoors, I lose connection when I move a little. Have to set it down at a particular spot to actually use it. There's goes my duel sim idea. Screenshot_2019-02-27-21-09-28.png

For a new RAIN sim card, is it normal that one gets 'No Service' message on an iPhone 4S? I first tried the sim card in an LG G 8.0 Pad (7" tablet) and it also couldn't pick up a cellular network.

Customer support told me to try the following but an iPhone 4S doesn't support LTE anyways?

Select Settings,
Select Cellular/Mobile network,
Select Cellular/Mobile Network Options, voice and data and select "enable LTE"
Return back and select Cellular/Mobile Data Network, there will be 3 categories; Cellular, LTE setup (optional), and Personal Hotspot, there will be 3 sections in each, APN, Username and Password, enter the following in each:
-APN: rain (small letters)
-Username : admin (small letters)
-Password : admin (small letters)

iPhone 4S is not an LTE capable phone. Rain does not have a 3G network. Mutually exclusive

Ok gotcha. So when I put the sim card in my LG G 8.0 Pad 4G tablet, for the preferred network it only shows GSM or WCDMA. But when I put my MTN/Afrihost sim card in, it shows GSM, WCDMA and LTE.

Btw, this sim card was received over a month ago, and I just delayed problem solving why it wasn't working because I had bigger fish to fry during Feb.

I think if you dont plug it in and activate it within x days/hours after receiving , then you have to contact support to activate it again

That tablet might not support the band's Rain uses...

Edit: Nevermind, I see they have to activate it first

I was looking for a portable wifi device, and saw RAIN sells the Huawei E5885 for less than any other place, so ordered one on Sunday, was delivered today, got a free sim and supposed to get 15 days free unlimited data. (Don't really care, another sim will go in here, not going to use rain after 15 days.

But mine just says "No Service" If I use other sims it works fine with the normal internet APN.

So does one have to phone them to activate the sim or something?

Sometimes they activate it when the courier sends through the RICA docs, and sometimes you have to call or use their online chat

Usually its active within 45 minutes of courier dropping of your sim and completing the rica process.. i did have an issue once a few months ago when i had to call them to activate. But it seems they have upgraded the system and its now linked to RAM for rica process..

Rain is awesome at the moment.. My speeds are in excess of 80Mb.. not even vodacoN can touch them in my area

You are the 1 in 1000.
Many users struggle incessantly with signal, speeds( both UL and DL).
This thread is testament.

Usually takes a day, very seldom that it gets activated the same day unless you phone them

I only got the sim cause I bought a device from them, luckely not planning on using RAIN for longer than the 15 free days I got, their network is a joke. Can't believe people buy this crap

you want to point me to another uncapped service for R250pm?

Is it really uncapped if you only get 40kb/s download speed with 1.2kb/s upload? And then loose service for half the day for some reason

I understand that towers gets overloaded, but the crap that you get "No Service" for half the day is crazy, guess the area (Durbanville Sontraalheights) must have crap towers or something.

yes. Slow, but uncapped. I get a solid 10mbps so it is great for me. I realise that isn't everyone's experience but writing it off as useless because it doesn't work for you is a bit of a stretch
