I don't see the point of this to be honest. You can basically do all this already on any smartphone. reydot.me , mwebtalk, frehphone, nexusisp, axxess mobile ect ect.

Put a data only sim like a telkom prepaid sim and you off with the same setup probably better coverage too and the ability to fall back to 3G if there is no 4G coverage.

Absolutely you can. Even then it is never as good as you would like it to be especially if you are on the move.

Any updates on the development of Rain Mobile? Are they done with Alpha/Beta tests?

I think they should invent (if it's not already done) a home phone setup.. (that's fairly thick and plastic like your normal landline phones). WhatsApp phone.

I know you could just probably use any cellphone for it. chuck some data on it etc.

but like an actual phone that can receive landline calls (via your normal Telkom phone number) and you can receive WhatsApp calls.. maybe addon a little cam on the phone for video Whatsapps).

Almost like a smart Home phone. or similar to a SkypePhone

Home phones are thick and have a lot of grip most of the time fairly durable. Cellphones are made to be thin and tend to not have a lot of grip.

I think it's also better that way.. cause it won't make the phone too complicated.. it's something you would be able to install for your grandparents or parents. Simple answer and talk system. Maybe you just load a couple of WhatsApp numbers on there for them.

Specially with the compression used by WhatsApp.. Data being cheaper than making an actual call per minute. {I mean how long would you be able to chat on 500mb of data calls - Most ISP's are around R99 for 500MB on prepaid which lasts 30days <so monthly reoccurring> or you can go and use the data over 6months if you take this one : R119 for 600MB<you can use it over 6months period> }

My beta trial has been extended. They said it would end in April, but I guess commercial launch is not ready

Still no launch date. Hopefully sometime this month they say something cause we're about to end the 1st half of the year.

Order placed as well. I am wondering though if you can add this unlimited data deal to the old/fixed lte deals?

If you look at the current Rain Fixed LTE pricing - 25GB@R299, 55GB@R549, 85GB@R799, 120GB@R999, 220GB@R1349, 330GB@R1599 it would be surprising if the Mobile product allowed more than 100GB of data consumption after several months otherwise many of the more profitable Fixed LTE customers will migrate over to the Mobile product.

Not really. Most home users use their internet between 6 and 11pm during the week.

I agree, I don't think their FUP will allow for 100GB of data if you use it like that monthly. For this pricepoint it would propably closer to the 30 - 40 gig mark, seeing that 55GB@R549 (they will propably email you and say they will throttle you or that you must think of moving to the Higher capped packages if you don't like being throttles to slow-ass-speeds)

Ordered 2days ago.. 362. Delivery for this morning.
