What happens if someone uses the sim in a USB powered modem?
What if the sim is used in a laptop with a built in modem?

it will still work, I hot-spot all the time on my phone,
works perfectly,
rain hasnt limited their service to specific devices. not yet at least.

Okay so just to be clear the 250 option and everything after that you can still hotspot on. It's only the "unlimited 4G for phones" ( R379 option ) that you will not be able to hotspot on. I'm not sure if I'm coming across clearly here.
 
where is this R379 option? I don't see it on the website

I hear what you're saying: Only the R379 package is limited to phones only.

I just want to see how it works is all. When is a device a phone, tablet or laptop, and does that create a loophole? I don't expect you to tell us, I'd just be interested to see some tests from MyBB members.

Most likely they will keep a blacklist of known portable and home routers, this check is the least likely to be bypassed as you need one of the extremely few LTE routers that can be flashed with alternative firmware and spoof the Model ID to get around it, and for hotspotting this can be bypassed if you put some elbow grease into it but the payback won't be worth it IMO, phones don't enjoy the luxury of external antennas and band switching like the routers do so this package is really only for the select few that are out and about in the cities mostly or are lucky enough to have a close and uncontested tower.

It's just TTL or deep packet inspection. Probably can get around it with the use of a VPN but then might as well pay the R100 more and get unlimited data for any device.

@rain_mobile is this R379 option going to have any other restrictions besides the 360p stream and hotspot? Are there any speed restrictions?

You mean, if you do, you actually expose how all ISPs are spying on their clients all the time.
What is more important is why you do not want to allow "tethering" or "hotspotting". But then again, if you do, you will expose how " thin" the network capacity available to these clients is or will be.
