Rain Recommended LTE/LTE-A Routers

Someone should tell Rain that.. why not 2CA it...

I guess if they 2CA it , the speeds will go faster than the normal 50mbit.. (think they want to cater for 50mbit.. not 100 or 150mbit)

It's more a hardware limitation. I have tested a couple of devices and from what I gathered Huawei does not do any FDD and TDD aggregation or if they do it's super limited bands that are supported.

If you get a Rain Mobile sim. Put that sim in a Samsung S8 or upwards and you will see 4G+ where Rain aggregates B3 and B38/41 just fine. One of my tests on a Rain tower showed 124Mbps download speeds.

If you are on Vodacom and see 4G+ on a Samsung device it's almost certain that you are roaming on Rain because Rain b1+b38/41 has 30Mhz spectrum and Samsung devices only start showing 4G+ if the spectrum exceeds 20MHz. Vodacom does carrier aggregation on B1 + B3 on their own network but that is only a total of 15MHz spectrum so won't show 4G+ and some places they even add band 8 to the mix but does not always exceed 20MHz spectrum so even though it is actually on 3ca or 2ca samsung still only shows 4G.

I gots an S9+ if it can do 100mbit.. i'll be amazed... (but i think rain will speed limit it down to 50mbit on thruput)

I doubt that. You can try it out. Then run this code in the phone app. *#0011# and you will see band 3 and band 38 aggregated.

So if an S8 and S9 can do that. Which modem can also do it ? B618 not apparently.. surely there must be one out there.

The samsung LTE radio is a masterpiece to be honest. They mad a lte radio that can basically work with any network and every frequency...

If there is a router that can do it it would be hard to find because you need to be able to screen through it's technical data sheet so you can see if it supports CA_3A_38C or CA_3A_41C

Cause i use my S9+ daily and it's not dual sim (i don't think)..

Awww looks like your tower doesn't have b38 :(

Take a drive and see if you can get 4G+ and then check service mode again. You can still go for a B315, B525 or B618. B618 has 4x4 mimo and if the tower supports it it would be decent otherwise a B315 would do. It can do both B3 and B41 so you would be able to switch between them and with an external it might be worth it.

I got the b618. but obviously it chooses one and stay on that band. Guessing also band3.

You can use one of the 2 huawei band tools to switch between band 3 and band 41

Would a RAIN sim work with my iPad Air 2? I've tried it but no luck, yet according to the specifications, my iPad does support the required bands?

Our Huawei B315 router from Afrihost (Rain Fixed LTE I assume) got knocked out by lightning just now.
Any suggestions what I'll be able to get over the next few days?
Doesn't look like Makro / Incredible got in stock by looking at their website. We're in Durban area.

You sure it's not just the plug? If you have a old cellphone charger you can try and see if it works by joining the plug to a usb cable and trying that.

Tested it with the cable from one of my old ADSL routers but still didn't work. So yeah, it's dead.

Good day
Can I use my Rain SIM on this router, are they compatible?

Hi i’d like some advice please

Received my rain mobile sim two days ago. I have tried it in a Samsung A3 2017 and a Huawei E5573 MiFi router but both are giving me terrible speeds as low as 0.02.

Phoned rain...they said that it’s because of my location. I live in Overport, Durban in a flats. I’m covered by the coverage map and have no problems using LTE data on my MTN cellphone SIM.

The router, while giving speeds a little better, keeps disconnecting like every 3 minutes.
Phoned Huawei support...they said it’s because the network is too bad.

I have setup the APN on both as per email instructions with ‘rain’ name and APN.

Please advise on what you think might be my problem. Have tried rebooting the devices and moving it around. No difference.
Should i buy a proper Huawei router like the B315S?
Will that solve the speed issue?
What is the main problem here?

Thanks alot.
