Rain slow speeds and poor support explained

cant believe that people still defend these con artists by calling those that complain cheap skates or expecting too much, or being naive in terms of if something is too good to be true etc.

its very very simple. what is advertised? is what is advertised being delivered? if not, irrespective of price, people have a right to complain. and yes, they can and should vote with their wallets and leave, but that too doesn't mean they shouldn't complain.

Well, you have to believe it, facts don't care about your woke feels, people warned ahead of time that this is likely to happen (cheap uncapped LTE/5G will cause congestion) so all those things apply. I fully agree that what is being advertised is not received, but then you take them to advertising authority to stop that advertising, and you take your custom elsewhere, hurt them where it counts (their wallet), and if someone answers, "but they are the only option"... WTF did you do before the launched the R250 product a mere 17 months ago?

I remember when my 10GB 8ta LTE was new in ~2011, got bad speeds at around 19:00 to 21:00, rest of time it was great.

You got a war buddy, 'merica **** yeah
Seriously here is the thing. Supersonic is not sure they can give proper coverage because of the area I'm in which is a small holding about 7km away from OR Tambo. Someone here uses them and their performance is not much better. So they charge a setup fee with an antenna. Telkom LTE seems useless as well according to my neighbour. Our only option is LTE because fibre will take many years to get here and the copper landlines are in such bad shape ADSL is useless as well. Telkom has no intention of fixing that. We have 3 sell phone towers within a 900 metre radius of our property but that does not help Rains poor performance.

Well, 3 other networks towers of course won't help. But in reality, maybe MTN 1TB deal from last month might have been your fix, even if R1059pm and the most evil thing in the world (according to many MyBB posters, worse), a 2 year contract.

Dear Roos

You are obviously not using your own product.

1) We are not comparing your service to MTN or Vodacom. The difference is: with MTN I can actually connect. On Rain it doesn't even connect to a tower.
2) With MTN and Vodacom, they will eventually respond to support request. Unlike Rains agents who doesn't even respond to requests.

Good Morning @Smurff

But why are you not paying MTN or Vodacom then?

At the moment I cannot complain. But I do feel for the others who does. You just can't have a product where one user gets all the speed and the other user get basically nothing. I would rather limit each user to a specific speed so that each user has good experience. Also limit how many users can connect to a tower. If that tower is full just don't allow anymore to it! Don't over subscribe it!

I think the R250 package is causing the issue here as there is basically no restrictions to it. I would re-align all the packages to specified "up to" speeds. I also lately see that more companies get the R250 packages for business use. Why not have a option for the home user and business user?

Just my thoughts...

Gone from 550Mb/s in October 2019 to 70Mb/s in November 2020

Rain CEO.

If you are listening.

I offered you guys to place a tower on my building. You didnt respond.
I told you guys that your tower is too low. You didnt respond.
I told you which buildings to try. You didnt respond.

It is unfair that certain towers are providing 50mb download speeds yet our tower cant even allow us to open the rain website.

Your support staff are only trained in asking for a speed test and positioning the router to the nearest tower.

You really need to rethink your towers in Durban and the Beachfront.

You have a long way to make it to the top.

When using rain on a normal basis am getting 30 MBps on average , HOWEVER the moment start to Download a movie via u torrent its slows to about 57 kpbs !!! never happened when I was with Telkom , can someone please explain why ? Thanks

Clearly, it is raining heavily on RAIN'S parade right now AND they have no umbrellas...

I was a subscriber to Rain for roughly 2 years. When I suffered poor service delivery - hopeless speeds from this network, I cancelled. I took the sim and burnt it as I do not want to be associated with this SP.

...but nothing wrong with their debiting your account for a service that doesn't work as advertised - a good case for a consumer class action suit against this mob and their useless "customer care" outfit.

So, the CEO of my R700 p.m. fixed connection ISP just called his own outfit a cheap joint?
WTF...

I watched this when it first aired.

The flaw in Mr Willem Roos's logic is that even at an "all-you-can-eat buffet" the food has to at least be edible at all times, and have seating available for every one of the patrons, unless said restaurant wants a lawsuit on their hands.
Yep. The "all you can eat buffet" that just let you sit there looking at the wall with NO food on sight is actually not an "all you can eat buffet".
Let me translate: At random and unpredictable times my otherwise fast Rain fixed 5G connection suddenly goes dead for times. Or so slow it can't load a web page.
Then after a while which can be 40 minutes at times, the "food" arrives again.
OK to download stuff and walk awsy. But try to have a conversation on that. Or do some urgent work. Or finish watching the Netflix movie.

I offered to let them install a hisite on my property, for no monthly charges just so i could get connected. But that didnt happen. Because the max i could get was something silly, around 5kb/s

They offer unlimited data. No other mobile operator does. If you use it, you have to accept the fact that you’ll maybe see degraded performance as almost everyone on their network are subscribed to an unlimited package. If the slow speed is raining on your parade, choose another provider and pay per GB for superior speeds, it is simple.
Fair point but also fair point would be the advertising? "Rain... Pay a lot and get fast speeds at times but no connection at times ..."
