With all the load shedding my rain device keeps connecting to a far away tower (3.3km) and my speed sucks as a result.
I have been trying to contact support, but they are non-existent at the moment.

Does anyone know how to manually tell my rain device which tower to connect to? I have tried 'my rain - manage device' on the rain website, but the map with the towers seems to be 'read only'

Hi @devblazer

May you please send us a pm with your details.

Hi @devblazer

May you please send us a pm with your details.

I am experiencing the same problem.

It disconnects from a tower that's 0.92km away and in-line of my window. It then connects to a tower which is further away, in another direction, and which is completely out of line-of-sight.

This causes me to have no internet connection whatsoever with the network LED on the router staying red.

Is it possible for you to lock the router onto a specific tower? Please can you assist?

It always connects to that tower that is 1.83km and out of line-of-sight. And as you can see there's a tower 0.92km away.

When I do get connection to the 0.92km, my signal is strong and I get full speed.

Unfortunately, the back and forth connection to those two towers make my internet connection useless as it always drops.

Hi have you ever managed to resolve this? I'm sitting with the same problem and want to be able to manually select a Tower closest to me.

They gave me some instructions on how to configure this in the device, but it never quite worked properly. I have since moved and am lucky enough to have fibre coverage. My sympathies. If you can get a technician to come out and 'optimize' it and update the firmware, then while they are there you can get instructions from them on how to try the manual configuration thing. Although there are constant tower outages due to load shedding and failed recovery, battery, etc. so you will struggle a bit, even with a manual configuration solution. Best of luck

Can't wait to see the back of RAIN myself...

I also don't connect to the closest tower, but I noticed that I have basically no line-of-sight of that tower.
Like, its not possible at all for me to see it due to trees and maybe a single building.

However the third closest tower to me, I have almost direct line-of-site.
The RAIN router connects directly to it, and I have a decent experience.

I've tried to manually lock it to the closer ones, and the experience was worse.

If you have the outdoor ones, go into the advanced options somewhere and use the antenna optimization, that seemed to get me to the best tower.
With the ZTE, its a little less smart and doesn't have that option, but just seems to grab the best tower right away, I assume it has less antenna options or something.

The Outdoor CPE can be forced to a different tower by stopping and starting the 5G connection.
The ZTE needs to be totally rebooted, it seems.

Both Malibongwe and Blairgowrie towers are operational today, but 5g signal is 1 bar (used to be 4-5) and getting no throughput.
4g signal is 5 bar and over 100mbs but tends to drop and reconnect randomly which interrupts my work and drops Teams meetings.

Have a similar problem to Devblazer top comment.
Had a tech from Rain come in and he/she/they/it/? said that my router was also connecting the wrong towers. Its completely messes with your online experience and, whats more, the switching between 2.4 and 5 bands is a nightmare with our devices. Had it for two months now and unless theres a solution to this, well....its month to month, so theres some upside too.

Is the problem sorted?

Ever since I got my rain one package I have never enjoyed good signal, I try to optimize on the website, the only icon that I see on the map is my location icon, there is no rain tower icons on the map around me, when I put the router by the window, the 5G light come on red and sometimes orange with the 4G light completely off, when I put the router in the lounge, the 4G light is on red with the 5g light completely off or both lights off, everytime I call customer service I'm getting through to a call centre in India with people that are not helping me, like today they tell me that the 5G tower is down and connected to a 4G tower, if so then why is my 4G not working, last week the lady that tried to help me and failed after 2 hours of rebooting, restarting and unplugging and re plugging the router said that she will escalate it to the technical department to get back to me and nobody called, I am hell frustrated as I work from home and my work is suffering as well and I cannot get the help that I need from the people that's suppose to help and know how to assist, this is terrible, is there any other things that I can try? I have no idea where to go from here now, this is bad, I even give up on calling the customer service number
