Does anyone have any feedback on peer to peer downloads during the day on a 4Mbps uncapped account?

I will probably never get near the 450GB monthly limit, but would like to get good peer to peer speeds during the day when I need to get something quickly. At present I seldomly get more than 100kBps during the day and usually in the 50kBps range, while at 17h00 it shoots to full speed.

Hi Indo,

I can gladly recommend anyone to try Razoweb as their ISP, I had such great service from them, the downloads are very good and I just love my ping in game, much better than my previous ADSL service that I experience ATM.

Hi there i would like to ask currently my exchange only supports 2 mb because telkom takes forever to upgrade the exchanges so that is what i am stuck with :( :( Is there anyway you guys would be able to try and synq my line at 4 megs then if it is unstable drop it a bit drop it a bit to lets say for instance 3.2 meg well keep dropping it till its stable so that i could see if i couldnt get closer to 4 megs because being stuck on a 2 meg for 5 years now is horrible , the reason i ask is because i have looked at my line noise attentuation and SNR and done a few internet speed pridictions based on that and they all seem to think at minnumum i should be able to get 6 megs in the worst of scenarios but telkom keeps saying im too far from the exchange but im not i have good SNR and line attentuation so i would love to test it then move to you guys if i can get closer to 4 meg obviously full 4 meg would probably be very unstable :(??

Hi Jamie,

Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay in getting back to you, the last week in the office has been hectic. To answer your question, It would be easy enough to say we can up your line to 6Mb/s and test it to see where we receive the best strength and stability. Sometimes it appears as if call takers read from a pre-printed card filled with "acceptable responses" instead of actually trying to assist the client in a more personal manner.

What you have to remember here is that SA broadband is always quoted as "up to (insert speed"). This is done because we cannot guarantee a specific speed, neither can Telkom. Should wish to help us help you, feel free to head on over to our website, choose the package you desire (my suggestion would to sign up for a 2Mb/s package). We will then up your line speed and actively work with you to reach the fastest possible stable speed on your line.

Kind regards;

Indo

Hey , it is no problem man the only reason i ask is the telkom adsl checker reads my line's highest speed possible as 2 meg but im wondering if i cant maybe get like 3.2 or something if i pushed it higher so is it in your all knowing wisdom that the line checker is not 100 persent accurate :d?

Hi Jamie,

If you are referring to the "checkadsl" online tool, yes it is my personal experience that it is not even remotely accurate. Taking my line as an example, according to the check I should not be able to get anything more than 1Mb/s. The reality is that I have a stable 10Mb/s line.

Hi Jamie,

The difference between our home and business products are the priorities given. For our home products we have no set priorities whereby downloads, streaming etc enjoys the same priority. On our Business products, office based protocols enjoy a higher priority than non-office based protocols.

Hi Indo.

If someone did online gaming etc, what line of yours would you suggest? Are your line unshaped? Is there throttling?

Hi Chingatchkook,

We have numerous gamers in our customer base who have a rage of line speeds from 4Mb/s to 10Mb/s, none of them have had any complaints yet when playing games such as BF 3, DotA 2, WoT etc. In a recent conversation with some of our gaming customers, all of them expressed satisfactory latency to local and international servers for gaming. Our home based lines are geared towards gaming and downloading, with the higher speed lines being geared towards heavy users.

Unfortunately, like all other ISP's and based on the contract currently in place with our up-stream provider, we do have a throttling policy in place which measures total usage for a specific product speed and throttles HTTP, P2P downloads.

Hi

I am currently with Telkom Internet on a Uncapped 1MB package. First month was good. Full speeds until I reached about 115GB of usage (torrent downloads). Then my speeds were more or less halved for the rest of the month. Final result was about 150GB of usage. Same thing happened in month 2. Now in my third month, from the start, torrent downloads are ONLY possible from midnight to 6AM. The rest of the day they are simply dead as in 0 kilobytes per second. This is obviously unacceptable to me. If I move to Razowebs 1MB uncapped home product for R275 (which is alot more than competitor are charging for a similar product offering), what can I expect? Same as month 1 with Telkom Internet?

Good Afternoon ambroseg1

If you read our slogan "Internet as it is meant to be" you will get the internet you pay for and if you do not get it give us a shout and we short it out with our upstream suppliers within 5 min and better yet if you do sign up with a debit order October is free.

Happy surfing

I do appreciate your reponse. Really I do. But you have not answered my question. Your idea of internet as it should be, may differ from mine. basically I want to be able to use my internet for whatever I want. If I get throttled to half speed due to network congestion then so be it. But I dont accept network congestion to be from 6AM till midnight. And when I am throttled, getting less than a quarter of the speed I signed up for I find unacceptable. If that happens, the ISP should increase its "badnwidth" to accomodate customers. being throttled to about half speed for limited times, is fine by me. You understand what i am trying to get at?

edit: Just noticed the price for a 1MB bundle which I assume includes adsl line rental is R300. Yes the price for the 1MB account on its own is R275. Is that correct? R25 more and you get adsl line rental included??

edit to add again: I am what most consider to be an abuser. I have a massive list of stuff to download and basically leave my pc on 24/7 to download. basically I expect full speed at least 50% of the time, and throttled (between 1/4 and 3/4 speed)speed the other 50%.

Hi Ambrose,

We view our slogan "Internet as it's meant to be!" in the same manner. At RazoWeb we believe customers should get what they pay. This being the reason that we recently moved all our customers to the MTN backbone yet again, seeing as other upstream provider's shaping protocols did not contribute to providing the above mentioned services.

Should shaping occur from the MTN side, you can be assured that it will not be from 6am to midnight, at most it will occur during office hours. We have users that use in excess of 1TB a month (on a 10meg line) who has never complained of shaping since that is not the way we believe internet access should be delivered on uncapped accounts.

Whilst we are the new "kid on the block", the company was started because of our belief that uncapped should be exactly that, uncapped. Not uncapped but shaped when you start "abusing" your internet access. We are still at the mercy of MTN's shaping protocols which is nowhere near as stringent as that of other upstream providers. Should the throttling come from MTN's side, give us a call, I am sure we can sort that out for you, as I say however we've not received shaping complaints on the MTN network yet.

As for the pricing, yes the pricing on the website is 100% correct.

Feel free to ask should you have any other questions.

Kind regards;

Indo
