@Indo, may you please advise on this one from the tech side
This is my problem.
I don't want to hear about "my chances" or "depending on line", I want to know what the facts are.

What protocols do you shape?
How much do you shape it by?
When does throttling kick in?
Do you throttle all protocols or only the offending ones?
Is there a "rolling window" of some sort?
How long am I throttled?
What do I do to get to full speed again?

@Gboss, there is no catch , like i said in a post earlier, its the internet the way it should be!!!! i have been with countless ISP's and havent been happier since i made the choice of trying Razoweb out for myself
With Mweb i used to get throttled on 400Gb so bad that i couldnt even stream a 460p video and now haha 720 and 1080p movies dont even buffer
Damn, 1.2TB on 4MB, I doubt anyone gonna experience any throttling. Unless you plan on backing up the entire internet LOL

but seriously whats the catch?

@TheGrove i moved from openweb where telkom was the dsl line manager, so Telkom had to release my line so that Razoweb can take it over, and Telkom did not release thus the posting u mention, i had an issue with the support that spesific day due to the person that was on duty, came to find he got dismissed because he did not answer any support calls, they have appointed a excellent 2 young men and their service is excellent and above expectations.

So in short the problem was from the beginning with telkom and not with razoweb, and ever since i have moved over i cannot be happier with them atm....
Its up to you as individual to decide if you would like to give them a try and test (test acc doesnt cost anything) and then you can see for yourself how and what i am talking about

Only 4 test accounts...
...with a 1Gb cap...
...valid for 1 day only...
...from an unknown ISP...
...with a broken Website...
...that charges more than OpenWeb Gold...
...promoted with a measly 5% discount...
...from an unknown member...
...that has only used the service for 3 weeks...
...that has no clue about the AUP policy...
...that said he was disgusted at the service...
...because there was only 1 person answering calls...
...that got fired.

I think i'll pass thanks, OpenWeb have been nothing but good to me... You guys just seem a *tiny* bit dodgy imo.

The pricing seems whack - R275 for 1Mb uncapped and R300 for 1Mb Uncapped PLUS Telkom ADSL Rental?
That makes the line rental only 25 bucks.... hmm - very dodgy, somehow I think the Data part is subsidizing the Line rental, which tells me the account is going to be sub-par.

But I don't know that right? I mean, you guys could have brilliant accounts? Right?

Well.... that theory is trashed by the fact that you can't even provide proper test accounts.
Why only 1 day? why only 1Gb? Do you guys not have capacity or something?

Somehow I just get the feeling you guys wouldn't be able to handle my downloading needs.... not if you guys have issues providing proper test accounts.

At the very least it should be 5Gb with 3 days to test - and that's only for a 1Mb account.

I agree - it does seem a bit fishy.
Its amazing that the ISP just happened to pass on this special to you, when they already have a rep on board. And as mentioned you have been a sub to them for less than a month - and they have handed you test accounts to dole out.

That said, you download almost 1Tb a month - how much have you done so far this month - and what throttling have you experienced?
Also this is just 1 month, whose to say that if you follow this trend for 6 months (1Tb per month), they wont chuck you out?

I am in the market for an uncapped account - 6Mb line - can you request an uncapped account for like a week or 5 days - 1Gb limit aint gonna cut it.

@Keeper honestly imho all test accounts are 1gb that i know of, and i do not know how the pricing works as i do not work for them, all i know is what i get and see and that has been mentioned .
As for the downloading "needs" that is the beauty of the month to month basism if you not happy then you can change back to your ISP.
And i asked for the 1Gb 24 hour account due to me being a gamer and in know how people can abuse the fact that it is a free test account.

That seems to be the case with other ISP's though. Did a check with Afrihost the other day and its almost the same.
For eg, a 50G bundle will cost you R 399, yet a 4Mb line with 50G will cost you R 450. So an extra 51 bucks for the line.

So there is some form of subsidization taking place.

What protocols do you shape?
We shape Http downloads, NTTP and Peer to Peer since these are the "offending" ones.
How much do you shape it by?
We shape to 3/4 during 07:00 and 19:00 weekdays
When does throttling kick in?
Our system (via our upstream provider) monitors usage on a 10 calendar day rolling period. Should your account be identified as the highest usage account in your group, throttling will set in.
Do you throttle all protocols or only the offending ones?
As mentioned above, the "usual suspects" being Http, NNTP and Peer to Peer is throttled.
Is there a "rolling window" of some sort?
Yup, it's a 10 calendar day rolling window.
How long am I throttled?
Sadly, as long as you are identified as the highest user in your specific account group, you will be shaped / throtlled
What do I do to get to full speed again?
As much as it pains me to say this, reduce your downloads.

While virtually everything I've said above seems like it is taken from a "Text book for ISP's in South Africa" it sadly is still the state of affairs of internet access in South Africa. I hear the frustrating muttering in the office indicating that we (even the bosses) hate shaping / throttling just as much as our users do and continuously fight to have this evil removed. Unfortunately, this is a battle that will continue for an undetermined amount of time. We intend to live our slogan "Internet as it's meant to be!" and keep fighting for true uncapped internet or at least affordable true uncapped and unshaped internet access. We are after all, consumers just as you are and would love the same services you want

Ok but you're comparing uncapped and capped bundles now.
Afrihost is R400 for 4Mb uncapped, and R700 for 4mb uncapped + line rental - that's not 50 bucks mate that's R300 more (almost 50% of the cost)

I can understand and ISP charging me R100 for 1mb line rental when I bundle it with them - a nice R65 discount.

But R25 for line rental? They have to get a massive deal at telkom, and for a new ISP that is highly unlikely.
I'm guessing the data part is heavily subsidizing the telkom line rental and therefore probably has a poor contention ratio (Just a guess)

But like I said, I could be wrong about all this - where is the feedback from our MyBB testers? Anyone tried it so far?

Thanks Indo that is what I was waiting for.

So basically for a heavy downloader like myself, I will be stuck in 75Kb/s all the time. lol.
That ain't too bad, I have to admit - it's a slight knock off the speed but it's R100 less than Openweb (R229 + 165)

I might try it for a month if I have some cash to throw away, as I'm still skeptical whether I can really push 75kb/s on NNTP during business hours. (That sounds too good to be true, sorry it just does)

From an ISPs point of view, isn't a 1TB user on a 4mbps line mean that you'd be running at a loss at that price?
