*READ FIRST* iBurst Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

Investigations have highlighted a problem with a repeater RF tower in the Pretoria area and a maintenance crew is repairing the links.

Apologies for the problem.
Is this in regards to the email problem being reported for Randburg?? Yes I too am on gmail but no problems with webmail version only pop..

The Gmail issue is not an iBurst one: people in the UK and elsewhere have been reporting it today, for example at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=0b248078197e21a2&hl=en

BTW, I have tested and can confirm that the solution suggested by posters on that thread, to change BOTH incoming and outgoing servers to ww-in-f108.1e100.net (which a WHOIS lookup will show is a Google domain) works as a temporary fix until Google get their usual POP and SMTP domains up again. If you use this server address, you will get a warning that the certificate doesn't match the name (WLM gives me one the first time I send or receive on a Gmail account each session; not for each account), but that's only a minor annoyance if you need to get at you mail.

Update (2011/12/07 at 03h27 GMT+2): As per an update to the Google support thread I link above, the problem with the gmail.com and googlemail.com POP and SMTP servers now seems to be resolved. It might be a good idea to flush your DNS resolver cache before retrying.

Thanks for the information. POP.GMAIL.COM is working again. Sorry for blaming this one on you, iBurst ;)

Afternoon. Unable to connect to iBurst, connection stuck at "Verifying username and password." Times out after a while. In Alberton area.

Yes, apologies, the problem has been fixed. One of the fourteen core PDSNs failed and needs to be replaced. We have temporarily disabled the device while it is being replaced. The towers are able to continue with a minimum of six so everything is in hand.
