*READ FIRST* iBurst Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

more slow downs from MTN Business network. AGAINNnnnnn.....arg. How predictable is this becoming?

Local seems fine, international slow as a dog (in Cape Town btw). Iburst can you update, and also let us know if there is really nothing more you can do when something goes wrong on the MTN network? This is really ridiculous.

I'll investigate what the status is in Cape Town and provide feedback.

SAT 3 problems

We have SAT3 restoration of circuits currently taking place.
This is in preparation of the weekend scheduled maintenance. Circuits are being moved from SAT3 to SAFE. We will be experiencing high latency until the work has been completed.

We sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused

when do you expect the work to finish? I was planning on enjoying some entertaining online gaming tonight but once again this seems like its at risk.

I've also been having intermittent probs where I dial in, get connected, but have to disconnect and redial before I can actively do any work. Don't know what that means?

Ronald, any feedback from the upstream providers? Still having very high latency. Im going to create a logbook to keep track of all these problems >.<

Update on SAT-3

Please find herewith an updated notification regarding the schedule of events to normalise the power reconfiguration of the Southern segment of SAT-3.

The plan of work is as follows:

Wednesday & Thursday (12&13 May 2010): Restorable traffic (excluding festooning stations) are patched onto restoration routes – Schedule attached. Restoration route will be tested and then the patching will be performed, i.e. combined RET and restoration. This will cause a patch break to traffic and then an increase in RTD. Exercise will continue until all steps are restored, starting 00:01 UTC on 12 May 2010.

Saturday (15 May 2010): Power in the Southern trunk of SAT-3 will be reconfigured. The duration expected to be 4-6 hours maximum. All NR traffic and festooning stations’ traffic will be lost for the duration of the power reconfiguration exercise. NR traffic and Festooning stations’
traffic are attached. Precautions in place this time to prevent the ordeal experienced last time are:
Alcatel will be online in communication from the start of the exercise, until completion.
The commands being sent have been double checked and confirmed correct.
All cable station staff will be connected, have the correct software on their laptops and be informed of the POW.

Saturday (15 May 2010)- 3 hours after successful power reconfiguration:
The forced ring switch will be released (causing a switching (50ms) hit to NR traffic and festooning traffic) and then Restored traffic will be patched back to their normal working routes on SAT-3 (normalised), causing a patching break to restorable traffic – Normalisation schedule attached.

Please note that due to the following reasons this notification period is shorter than the norm:

Many TSA international communication links for the FIFA soccer world cup is offered with ring switching protection in place, which is currently not possible on SAT-3.
Testing of these international services has already commenced.
Many of these services is required to be working (with protection in
place) by 14 May 2010.
The freeze period for the 2010 FIFA soccer world cup taking place in SA was extensively communicated in many forums, including the S3WS AR&R and MC meetings.

TSA NNOC (S3WS ORCO) will be coordinating the restoration and normalisation exercises and MLK (TSA SNOC), in collaboration with Alcatel, will be coordinating the power reconfiguration exercise.

Ok, don't know if its related to this move but this afternoon its completely unusable. Posting this from phone!

Heya Ronald - since we don't see the "attached" schedule, can you perhaps please update us to what this means in our lives?
With the "steps you have taken" will we have internet tonight/tomorrow morning or not? Thanks
