*READ FIRST* iBurst Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

I've just heard from r00i that one of the data centres has gone down and they are working on it. Apologies to everyone for the inconvenience.

They have a new option when you top up - 24 hours of uncapped which pauses your current bandwidth and lets you go nuts for 24 hours for 99 rand.

I have a ****load of steam games to update and play and it seemed like the perfect day to try it, but nope.

Oh, that could be quite handy for heavy downloading over a short period...

Apologies again for the problem. The connection between the two data centres uses DWDM with multiple fibres but there was a problem with the fibre connectors. It wasn't a problem that could be fixed remotely and we had to travel on site to resolve it.

Yeah the past few days I have noticed erratic speeds and random disconnects. The last 12 hrs have been ok tho :/

Yeah the DNS was reset again sometime between 12 midnight and 8 morning. So effectively nothing downloaded.

Telkom used to do this but at least they did it at 6pm in the evening.

Iburst is really scaly.

trace to iburst's own website times out !
This is normal, it just means the routers along the way do not respond to ICMP packets.

Code:
$ traceroute iburst.co.za
traceroute to iburst.co.za (196.2.125.95), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
 1  mikrotik (192.168.88.1)  0.414 ms  0.514 ms  0.620 ms
 2  wbs-41-208-232-1.wbs.co.za (41.208.232.1)  36.190 ms  39.827 ms  46.051 ms
 3  192.168.2.20 (192.168.2.20)  51.061 ms  56.087 ms  60.954 ms

What do you mean? What DNS was reset? If your router was disconnected and reconnected it should have picked up the new DNS settings and your downloads would have been able to resume.

Something is clearly F*! Your trace died at 192.168.0.97, running the same trace now and the next hop is 192.168.0.114. Someone please give bubbles a cowboy hat, bottle of whiskey, a tracking dog and have him track down that next hop and everything in between...
