iburst affected by seacom?

Hi all
I have been on the pro 10GB package for two days now.
I'm in 100% signal area(it stays at about 92+%)

However it is crawling, I cannot even upload a 10Mb file to send via gmail in 30 minutes?
are the seacom problems affecting iburst?
Is this iburst?

Cause if this is what iburst users get I'm cancelling somme nou-nou

Which version of gmail are you using? I find that "web 2" uploads don't really work well on my iburst connection (havent tried on other connections), change it to Classical HTML mode and upload the old fashioned way usually works.

But that's bull****!
Why would they throttle it, since the connection itself should not care what you do?
Getting worried about iburst, i was @ centurion mall's shop and they don't know why its slow as well

They also was not sure what DBi the omni directional antennae was.
I need to get one for home since i am in a poor reception area(so it's useless at home)

Not sure if it's throttling, gmails fault, or a combination.

r00i might give better insight, but till he wanders around to the forums - have you checked your error rates? if you are in a low signal area and getting 92% strength it might be you are getting signal that is bouncing off something. So signal strength appears high but in reality to the tower you have to go through a building or something.

Comming from a programming background I cannot believe it would be gmail's fault.
Its just a web app running in a browser like everything else

Alas I'm out of luck obtaining a new cell c 5GB sim before the increase, seems they're "out of stock".
So I'm stuck between 8ta and iburst, which is portable
But both will require an antennae to work properly at home since their coverage ends down the street
Smack bang in centurion though

Does anyone know the DBi for the omi antenna for R399?
If I'm in a poor area will it help?
Miro has a 13DBi one
I-Burst 1800MHz - Yagi Antenna - 13dBi -N(F)

Uploader is flash based, so the byte stream that flash sends up might not register as normal traffic, and thus iburst might throttle it... It's single threaded so errors will hurt you a lot if the buffer size is particularly large.

Check the flea market, I've got one a while ago for R299 so you might get lucky on the market.

My I-Burst has been pathetically slow during the day for the last couple of days (since Monday), has this something to do with Seacom?

Connection Problems in JHB

Anyone but me having constant connection problems in the JHB area? Iburst claims innocence and incident report page shows an 2 day issue on the east rand. The call center is unreachable.....

Thanks

So what do they not throttle then, cause from my 3 days experience their'e throttling THE internet.
Checked my signal and error rate again, 92->100% and errors 1->3.xx%
I see other people complaining about this week as well, yet no one from iburst seems to answer as to what is going on.
A simple yes its seacom or no were having some issues(will keep you updated), will suffice

BTW My gmail is set to basic file uploads
Cell c uploaded the same file in the same browser in the same building @ 2+Mbps?
So I went to get a 13DBi antenna today from poynting and what luck!
I got a 5GB Cell C sim from the Cell C shop(last one according to them), so I'm sorted for the year.

You're looking for an error rate <1%

r00i is usually very good with this. He's going through a very challenging time so we show a bit of patience these days.

Good, the flash uploader sucks for "slow" connection

CellC is a 21Mbps network, iBurst a 1Mbps...

Cool, always good to have a backup in my opinion. Would have been nice to see your opinions of 8ta (i think the 8ta offer is better than cellCs)

Yes, but the 5GB cell c sim was R2000 once off.
The antenna alone for 8ta and iburst was a R1800

As for Cell c being a 21mbps vs iburst 1mbps network, pffft!
It still does not excuse iburst not enabling me to upload a 10mb file in half an hour

Having major spikes on WoW through iBurst, been kicked off the server twice now.

Update: I been kicked off during highly data intensive stuff on WoW like dungeons and raids.

Had a couple of serious 5 to 10 sec spikes but no disconnects. Bit of a pain when you are supposed to keep the tank up.

No issues have been reported locally or internationally but have logged a ticket on the international IP transits. Any tracerts reflecting the issue will help.

I've just sent an email using the gmail web interface with 2.2MB of attachments without any problems. I'm using the AJAX interface, not basic HTML.

But why do I need to find workarounds to use gmail, arguably the most well known e-mail service in the world
, just because I'm on iburst?
Throttling torrents etc, fine, but gmail?

Not sure why you think iBurst are throttling gmail. Have you checked your signal strength, tried the modem in different locations?
I had problems earlier this year, but since the fix it has been fine.

because it was suggested to be an issue:
