Perhaps not, but they are annoying.
Now you get people that (at night) switch off their headlamps but keep their fogs on.

I don't have high hopes for humanity anymore.

That's just being a moron.

I can't put my front fogs on without my main beams on as well. Only time I think it does that is if my fogs are on and my auto headlights switch off as the ambient light increases. Don't drive with them on that often though but we have had a few mornings with some thick fog on the N2. By the time I get to town my main beams are off and only the front fogs are on.

What I have also started to do when I get past past them is to switch on my rear fog lights so that they can see how bright it is. I then switch it off after a few seconds. Not sure if they get the point as they don't come past me again.
 
I think it really happens per accident sometimes, use to happen to me. If you accidentally pull the nob outwards to far (like in the mercs)

Don't know how it works on Mercs but on all 3 Citroens I've owned you cannot accidentally put it on. I have auto lights so if the lights are on, one turn on the stalk turns the front fogs on and a second turn on the same stalk turns on the rear fogs.
 
This thread is like therapy. Rear fogs drive me batty.

The lights on a Mercedes works similar to the old "1-2-3" aircon knobs. Then once it's on manual, you can pull it back one click for front fogs and back another for rear fogs.
 
I switch on my rear foglights only when the idiot behind me has their foglights on and there is no fog.
 
I was stuck behind some idiot on the n1 for about 5km.
It is the worst on the dark, clear mornings. I then moved over to a lane that was moving slower just to avoid this person.
I see way too much of this.
Also tried the brights thing, but then I feel like an idiot. Tried the overtaking and putting on rear fog thing too. Don't think it works.
 
I've got a bigger problem with people taking photos while they're driving than I do with fog lights.
 
The biggest problems on our roads are not wearing seatbelts and following distance. The cops only care for speed and drink. I drive better at speed when drunk while taking pics.
