Rear foglights driving thread

A guy driving with his rear fog lights is annoying - a guy driving distractedly while taking photos is dangerous.

I didn't think we actually had laws regarding fog lights? I didn't even think it was required by law to have foglights in this country, let alone how one uses them?

Don't get me wrong, fogs on when there is no fog is annoying. Especially the rear lights. Those things burn into your retinas like little red suns. Still I didn't think it was actually illegal to use them in that manner.

The use of fog lights is regulated by Regulation 163 of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 which states: “No person shall operate on a public road, a motor vehicle while any fog lamp fitted to such vehicle is lit, except in conditions of poor visibility caused by snow, fog, mist, dust or smoke.

Current legislation which regulates road traffic offences (e.g. Aarto) does make it an infringement to drive with fog lamps on whist visibility is good

But the guy with the rear fog light on causes unsafe/dangerous driving conditions for all those behind him because its harder to distinguish his brake lights or notice them because you have to focus your eyes somewhere else, see past his vehicle in bad light and causes some to take photo... so the problem is caused by that person.

True. But the guy behind should maintain a safe following distance :)

Of course, and that distance depends on speed, aka the minimum 3 seconds rule. None of which seems wrong in the pictures, where we cant see the speed.

And if you cant see the brakes light going on and is actively trying not to look at the vehicle too much with its blinding glaring light, then you loose the benefit of the gap.

And it's aggravated by the guy taking photos while he's driving. Unless you're thinking that somehow two irresponsible drivers are better than one? A good number of photos I've seen in this thread are of people driving in daylight with their rear fogs on which is not "bad light" so there should be little impairment to the drivers behind them. Annoying yes, dangerous… not so much.
 
The pics were taken in peak traffic crawling at 10 - 15km/h.

I'll just start driving with my brights on behind these idiots and refrain from taking any pics. I have a dash cam and will try and get some stills off it.

Still trying to figure out how front fogs are annoying though. I don't drive with mine on.

People driving with ONLY front log lights and their parking bulbs on annoy the hell out of me, because they mostly do this late at night (Oh, and if your foglights are HID's then you are mos cool, charna).

Not only are they reducing their own visibility, but two little lights illuminating the ground isn't going to catch my attention as well as two properly pointed halogen or HID main beam lights.

They aren't a problem.

What is a problem though are those "cool" idiots who force the fog lights on and then their headlights off or only on parks...retards.

Not to mention that in super darkness you'll think that car if further away because the lights are so dim and sit so low.

Never mind them.

The people driving around in almost pure dark with no lights are beyond me.

Surely if your dashboard doesn't light up you take notice?
 
I often see traffic police cars with no lights on at night. Boggles my mind.
