I do know what they are. A3 sedan, and most cars with automatic headlights have similar setups these days. Did make a small error with original post where it could have been read as me saying white DRL in back, this has been amended.

DRL: These are constantly on once the ignition is turned on, hence why I refer to them as rear DRL

Fog: Yes, bright enough to screw with the color reproduction. Supposed to be red, not purplish.

My '09 A6 and '10 320i E92 both have rear "DRLs"

Those are normal rear back lights, and not dedicated DRL's.

Everyone has those by the mere flick of a switch.

Dedicated DRL's are only found in the front.

I guess technically they can be called DRL's though, as they do run during the day on some cars.

On those two cars they run during the day, like my front DRLs. No option to turn on or off
 
Hat to sit behind a chop doing this this morning. Flashing them brights just makes them think you're an azhole

Still just your normal rear lights staying on. Sitting on Katherine street this morning I paid some attention, some cars going the opposite way had front DRLs and their rear lights were on, a Porsche (the SUV one) for example had front DLRs on and nothing on at the back. I think it's up to the manufacturers.

Normal rear lights, that stay on during the day are also DRL's... Time to move on, maybe?

This.. DRL = daytime running lights

The fact that the front ones are the most common don't exclude the rear lights from also being DRL. Same purpose, same function, different location.
 
How can you even read the numberplate with that bright light shining in your eyes?
 
I drive brother's 2005/6 Ford Fiesta now and then, when I flick the switch for normal headlights sometimes they come on but other times the same action results in brights coming on (with blue beam icon displayed on the instrument cluster). As a result I end up driving with the front fog lights (by pulling the control back once) to avoid 'brighting' people.

Its because the indicator stalk is pulled back (towards you) into the brights position. With it in that position you will notice little difference when driving in daylight and using the indicators. Just unengage it by pushing the stalk forward.

You must mean pushed forward, not pulled back. Pulling back is for flashing
